My dad has one of these...

He says I can have it as he never gets time to enjoy it anymore, but its only got a 1.3 engine with webber carbs...

So, I was thinking, seeing as its already RWD how about putting one of these in it? :eyebrows:

Just pondering over the idea at the moment... I know theres a lot of people on here capable of doing something like this, so whats your views/opinions and what problems do you think I'll have if I go ahead with it?

Will it fit? If it does..... you'll scare yourself sh!tless!!

Not 100% sure yet, the marlin is still covered up on the drive (been there for a couple of years) so I'll have to have a proper look. And yes, It'll be a monster :D

My friend said why not the TT engine... I told him the TT engine scares me in the supra that weighs 3 or 4 times as much as this lol

It it fits, then why not?
Weight? Somehow, a 2JZ-GE (or anything with a turbo) just seems to be the wrong sort of engine for that sort of car.

They take V8s and it looks like it has plenty of length so I'd say a NA Supe lump would fit.

That's a Sportster. Different car, based on BMW running gear IIRC.

2JZ-GE is non turbo, circa 230bhp seems about right for this sort of car imo.

And the sportster is slightly different yes, but based on the same chassis I think.

Anyway, just had a closer look, plenty of room for the engine and transmission. No doubt there will be problems with certain things, but thats what makes building something like this interesting

A lot of these have Ford and Rover engines in them. I don't do ford or rover so I've told my dad the only engine I'm prepared to try and fit into it is the supra :D

Its worth a shot, I can't see it costing a lot (under £1k ?)

Whats the cost of a N/A engine these days from a wrecked supra? Maybe a couple of hundred + wiring loom, ecu and other bits and bobs

I think you'll ruin the car to be honest, the 2JZ is far too heavy for a car like that. It'll be so nose heavy it will upset the handling lots :(

But its just too slow with the 1.3 in at the moment :(

There's loads of guys that have put the big Rover V8's in these, surely that will weigh more than a 2JZ?

Yes, it would be a bit weighty. Still, it's a Marlin - they're only built by old people that like to pootle around in cars that remind them of their youth aren't they?

Yup, Rover V8 is all ally and weighs less than a 2.0 Ford Pinto engine, that's why they're so popular. The 2JZ is an iron block and bloody heavy at that.

You don't need silly power in a car like that, although I'd agree that a 1.3 is a bit underpowered. Something like a Toyota 4A-GE or 4A-GZE (1.6 or 1.6 supercharged) is a great engine and very popular in kit cars. Raw Engineering do loads of kits for them and some fantastic upgrades. You can easily get 150bhp out of the N/A engine and in a car that probably only weighs about 6-700Kg that will make for a great little tool.

The supercharged ones will make 200bhp if you want, but they're a bit harder and more expensive to source.
