Power Steering Whine

Any body know if there is a different way to bleed the power steering system.

 

I have just fitted a new (Water) Radiator (CW Style, using an auto cooling rad in a manual car, using the cooler at the bottom of the new rad instead of the ugly one at the front)

 

But as I had to drain the power steering fluid to re-route the pipes, the pump now whines pretty loud when I go full lock to lock, Yes I have put fluid in.

 

Any help would be help!

I had the same problem when I changed my engine as i took the powersteering pipes off the rack.

The fluid just need to circulate around the system.

Dont put the steering under any pressure or you will blow a seal. Leave it ticking over and make very gentle movements with the wheel, after about 20 mins the noise on mine gradually went away. I cant remember if I left the PAS cap off or not.

Ive always started the engine and taken the power steering cap off and turned the steering wheel from lock to lock twenty times seems to do the trick in de-whineing the pump lol

Your risking bursting a seal turning it straight from lock to lock. Personally id do it gradually. But yeah leaving the cap off is the way to go to let the air out.

Thanks Hodge and Marco , I tried both these methods last night but I have left it running for quite a while today and its a lot quieter now, just get a loud whine when I first start the car then it goes. Haven't been able to take it on decent run yet as no tax or MOT, will see how it goes. Thanks Again
