Tom
Soon I'll be off travelling which means I'll have to store the car for at least 6 months, first off how should the car be stored? I do have access to a large garage at a relatives which I could use so how should it be kept? a cover? starting up every few weeks? Secondly my insurance renewal will come up in June while I'm away, so is there any way I'll be able to insure the car for cheap conisdering it won't be on the road? Lastly would it be easier if I sold the car?(which I don't want to happen!)
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
keep it at your familys garage, and get someone to start it every 3 weeks or so and let it tick over for a few minutes about 10 to be safe, keep the handbrake off and make sure all your levels are on the correct amount, if its in the garage a sheet will only keep the dust off,. nuttynutz
imo, i would just stick it in a garage if you can. if not then a cover at least. could you not just unplug on side the battery so it wont drain out (but then i duno about alarms and stuff)?? otherwise get your relative to start it every now and then. insurence however, wouldnt it better to just cancel it if its in the garage and not gonna be moving at all?? selling the car, i duno, how much are you attached to it. is it worth the depreciation of 6 months?? if not then dont
Jay
You can get fire/theft only insurance mate. When I sold the car before my Supra, there was a 3 month gap between me selling it and my insurance renewal. I called up and was told i'd lose that years no claims (i was nine months through) unless I transferred my insurance to another car. As the Supra was still in Japan I couldn't use that, so I used a relatives old banger and kept it garaged. I declared it's value at £50, told them it wouldnt/couldnt be driven, would never be claimed for, and I just wanted it insured for the sake of keeping up my no claims. They told me the minimum insurance I could have was fire/theft and cost me a grand total of £58 for the year. So not only did I get my full years no claims (to bring me up to 3) but also got a big rebate on the premium i'd already paid! That aside, £58 for a car worth £50 is bloody rediculous, and a blatant example of how much insurance companies rip us off.

Makes you wonder if it is worthwhile...pushing the car into another one of your cars just to make a claim on it *grin* What was the excess?? Whitesupraboy2
i was told also when storing a car to put on bricks and lay tyres on side (obvious) but grease up brakes so they dont lock up?!!? this correct?!?!
Tom
Good feedback there on the insurance front, might see what I can do, thing is if I'm longer than 6 months say 10 or something then I might just have to sell it!, not sure what to do! Supragal
You can get storage insurance as they offered me that for mine but I just wanted it suspended. Might be the same thing as above though.
Getrag
Tom, I remember reading a big thread on supraforums about this subject, with lots of good advice.

JamesC
Took mine off the road for a month and i wanted to suspend the insurance. The bloke asked a few questions etc and then offered me insurance for damage/theft in the garage. only cost something like £12/month.
