I am after pure stopping power. The UK brakes are the best brakes in a car I have ever come accross, but with the more power (no cat) they seem well not as good, I am putting castrol srf brake fluid in hopefully before billing, but with the mods planned to get her into 700 bhp mark, I'd rather do the brakes first. Brembo do a 6 pot conversion and tarox do a 12, Thinking might just try grooved discs alaround first...

I now have the kind of power you are after & I am not concerned with the stopping ability. A friend has a set of AP 6 pots & doesn't think they are any better than mine. I have groved discs, intermediate pads from Chris Wilson, & are just about to install cooling ducts to try & stop the front discs warping. I have done trackdays with this set up & the performed faultlessly. It's your money, bit I think a lot of the kits are asthetic. Until someone proves they can out brake me, then I'll stick with what I've got.

Found this on here,

the supra 4 pots r one of the best performing brake setups around. they even out perform the brembo 6pot 320mm. ive seen some figures somewhere ill try and find them (found them). i doubt that u can get better brakes for yr supra esp for reasonable money. have a look:-

Porsche Twin Turbo GT1 brakes (the best on ANY road car in the world produce 2060 Braking Horsepower.

The Jap-spec Supra TT produce 1010 Braking Horsepower.

The UK spec Supra TT 4 pots produce 1665 Braking Horsepower. (With the Mintex elliptic grooved discs 1760!)

Standard Porsche 996 C2/C4 1590 Braking Horsepower

Ferrari 456GT, 1480 BR/hp

Lamborghini Muira (1966), 780BR/hp ?!?!?!

Mercedes Brabus V12, 1950 BR/hp

Maclaren F1 1670BR/hp

Ferrari F1.....7000+ hot, 700, when cold!

2ltr Ford Mondeo Saloon 700 BR/hp

More, Brembo/AP 6 pot system, to any car

320mm discs (same as my supra brakes) 1590 BR/hp

355mm discs 1680 BR/hp

385mm discs 2040 BR/hp

Wilwood Rallystop (4pot) for the first 2 above sizes

1640 BR/hp

1750 BR/hp

the above brake info taken from soarer site, sourced by iain wiltshire.

---------------------

It is possible that your brakes aren't working too there best so it may well be worth getting the caliper refurb kit as well as changing the fluid. Just taking the cat out shouldn't be an issue with UK spec brakes.

I have stock discs and s/steel brake lines and Porterfield Race pads on my car and it stops very well. Like Terry's car I do have problems with warping discs.

Get better pads before replacing disc's.

Whilst in Yokohama recently it seems every car shop recommends Endless pads, have just run a search and found this>

He says that if you accord the standard Supra pads for the 4pots as '1' and the DS2500 that he had been using as '1.5' the NA-S is a '2', he says he can scrape the nose of his modded Supe on the road at full stop!

The standard stuff hardly wears the disc, the DS2500 scrape the discs out in a year, the endless are more aggressive than the standard, his discs are 1mm thinner in just about a year, so I think they are OK, he states that cooling air is ESSENTIAL for endless pads as they generate more heat than any other pads he has ever encountered outside of Formula/GT racing, he assures me that almost all the Skylines he sees have Endless pads and they are making there way into every performance car in Japan!

He actually complimented me on a good choice of Manufacturer!!!

So I've ordered some, should be here end of the week after next!

With posting £150.

-----------------------

How much better were these pads.

Mycroft and Chris Wilson were trying them but cant find any updates are they OK, as I have a colleague who stayed in Japan and will get him to send me a set if they are taht good.

Nick It's funny you should mention this. We have tried pretty much all pads now with the exception of Hawk, Panther & Endless. When Leon first got his car they had a very metallic pad with a blue backing. They were awesome. I now believe they may have been the Endless. I have details of the endless pads but cannot be sure which compound they were. Please keep me informed on which compound you receive & how they perform. FWIW where did you get yours from, as the only source I have found was in OZ & was quiet expensive.

Gavin, I think cooling ducts may be essential. I have mine made up, I just need to get around to fitting them I'll send you some pictures when they are done. The other option is 2 piece discs to dissapate the heat better, but these seem expensive.

I would be very interested, thanks.

Have you remove the gaurds at the rear of the disc's? I did recently as I think it will help a little.

Yeah they are off. I am sure it helps but I still warped them. I may change the rears as well as I think I may have warped those as well!

Whilst i was in yokohama isaw lots of the supras/soarers/j90's and 100's had the 4pot and 2 pot apparently taken from the Celica 4wd turbo, these brakes fit within the 16 inch rim and are ferocious for there size, they aremuch narrower than the supra 4pots adn you can getlots of different wheels for them, you dont need the splayed spoke type. supposed to be almost as good as the supra setup.
