Scott
What do you do Scott? Title is mechanical engineer. What i do is debateable lol. Sometimes, I work a couple of big machines and grinding wheels spinning at 15000rpm and polishing spindles at 30000rpm aren't uncommon. Scott =op I am/used to be a qualified fitter/turner but a life on a lathe was cut short by a car accident. I would polish a rim in a lathe but not while it's attached to a car.... H. jamesmark
Idiot!! H. What more than people working on Lathes? (sp) Even at School I used to do this for a better finish.

Havard
Sorry to hear about the accident, what happened? Scott =op I turned a Fiat Uno into a banana at about 35 - 40. The old woman who pulled out less than 10 yards from me told the Police......"I just don't know what happened"..... It was about 13 years ago. I had to quit engineering and start repping and living the dream!! What more than people working on Lathes? (sp) Even at School I used to do this for a better finish. Working on a lathe is one thing but running the wheels of a jacked up car is a recipe for disaster for me!! H.

Hope you got paid out well! I quite enjoy engineering but its not what it once was. The funny thing is i wasn't an engineer when it "was what it once was" but i can understand IYSWIM. Must be becaus my dad was an engineer along with my papa and my uncle lol. I just want to know how everything works I'm guessing sales pays better than engineering nowadays anyway Scott =op

garetheves
Im sure ive posted this technique a while ago because me and a friend did it to his Golf. it really does work well on a deep dish and i didnt catch my fingers once.
Scott
The faster something spins the less likely you are to catch your fingers on anything. When its spinning fast enough even the largest hollow will feel like a solid object
