Job Hunting

Frustrating isn't it? You apply to jobs through the job sites knowing that half of them could be made up roles by the agency just to get you on their books, who'll then ring you up and ask a load of completely pointless waste of time questions when the answers are all there on your CV if they could be bothered to look. Promises of interviews only to then hear nothing more, offers of jobs requiring skills you don't have, offering 27p per hour, or in outer mongolia.

Anyone know of any jobs in the Leeds area paying £25k+? :D (I've already dropped my asking price I think I should realistically be looking for £27-30k)

Any tips or suggestions? I've mainly been using the CWJobs.co.uk site, any other good ones?

In what field? It might help if you said.

.....Not that I can help anyway, I'm nowhere near. You're in IT of some sort IIRC, right? Are you looking for permy or contract postions?

I've been doing permy A/P work in SAPBW for the last 2 years and I'm always getting phone calls offering SAP contract jobs but they're all up in Surrey, Herts, etc.

Seems like SAP is one of the things to be in ATM, shame I'm not looking to move.

Good luck dude.

Looking for permenant 3rd line support type role, XP/2003 Active Directory, Exchange 2003, IIS6, Citrix, SAN etc. etc. Just somebody to give me a bloody interview would be a start lol.

I'm considering a move from my current job and you might be a suitable replacement :) I obviously need to find something first but I'll keep you posted - no Exchange here but we have the rest and much more....

Failing that would you consider a bit of contract work in the meantime? We have a big XP rollout in the pipeline will need people to help with it - that's how I started here, then I was daft enough to go perm.

Agents are awful these days, I used to be one years ago and it was a lot different then, we'd call everyone to confirm receipt of a CV, try to match new candidates up to jobs, make an effort to be proactive etc. Now they just scan you in using OCR and wait for the automated database to match keywords before sending you an email. For the record 4IT in Leeds seem to be OK, fire your CV at Peter Robinson ([email protected]) and tell him to keep you in mind for any work at Arla Foods on the recommendation of Michael Canny :)

Jobserve.com seem to be finding plenty of matches for me at the moment but nothing that's been just right as yet, worth registering and uploading your CV for searching though.

I thought you were a copper?

Yeah- me too?

:D It was a long running joke about Thorin being Plod. I think there was some misunderstanding because he was working for them but he's a civvy. He's never claimed to be plod, but he doesn't correct people who seem to think he is.

You should try Manpower, they have a citrix system and their IT guys don't seem to have a sodding clue, I should know my missus works for them!

Ask them for a job with a speculative letter telling them you know their citrix system goes down every day in the afternoon!

hahah cheers guys. No I'm not plod :p

Mcanny, I could possibly be interested in some contract work but the thing is it would need to be guarenteed for 6 months MINIMUM.

I'd been using Jobserve but it just hadn't seemed as good lately. CWJobs seems to be teh daddy for IT jobs (same database as Totaljobs and a few others by the way). I had been looking at jobs central Leeds area but I've been contacted about two in Halifax, one of which offering £35k.... That'd do. :D

I heard that about 2 years ago, SAP can be very diserable, and its something I have been trying to land a post in for a while now, got most other platforms, so when my Sony job came up working in my home town as well, to say I was like a pig in shit is a understatement. Supposedly as they tell me Sony has the biggest SAP system in Europe.......and they have 4 production mainframes all just for their DB2 databases which SAP feeds from.

So remember they need you........lol.......

Thats the one. I actually had a telephone interview before and they asked for me by name as someone they wanted to see in person, but that time I applied through an agency and they dicked me about and didn't sort out an interview. This time I've applied straight through their website and have explained that to them. I'm hoping they'll ask me to come for a proper interview to give me a chance to do some blagging! :D
