Insects stuck to a Supra puzzle.

I'd say the fly on the tyre as it goes over the top it would be going twice as fast as the car, on the way up and down, the same speed as the car and at the bottom zero as it squashes!....and various speeds between.

no, to get an overall speed you have to combine the vector velocitys to get a single resultant velocity, you can't just add those numbers together

Well, the one on the windscreen and the one on the wheel are all travelling at 100mph relative to what they are on.

The one on the timing belt is going slower than the 5000rpm, but need to know the diamters of the pulley gearing to work that out

(i think)

The moth is clearly doing 100mph on the windscreen.

The fly is doing an average of 100mph on the tyre (it covers the same distance through space as the tyre does on the ground).

The bee is doing 100mph forwards with the car, and is also moving with the belt in a plane orthogonal to the car's motion. However fast the belt moves, the bee is moving faster than 100mph in total.

Or... they're all dead and therefore not moving (as in moving their wings etc).

Or... they're all not moving relative to whatever they're stuck to.
