Patrick_Devlin
Yeah, wouldnt mind seeing some pics too... had a quick look at the grill tech website and I think it looks pants, its far to far forward. I was looking at putting something in at the back of the bumper, nearer to the radiator. Was it easy to butcher and fit afterwards Chris? Although it seems harsh to pay for one of these grills from grille-tech to then cut it up the material the grille is made from is very strong and of good quality so IMO i think it is worth it. It has a black trim around the outside mainly for those fitting it as originally intended. You could i guess remove this completely if you were trimming thr grill down to fit into the recess. The hardest part was drawing a template of the bumper recess to then use to cut the grill. Once complete i made a cardboard grill to ensure perfect fit. Next i removed the black trim and cut the grill with a hack saw (New blade for maximum sharpness). I refitted the trim as i preffered it on. IMO the clips and screws they provide are rubbish (probably an understatement too). So i made some brackets out of small alluminum angle bracket. Once these were fitted and the grill installed you cannot see them. The grill fitting is a bit of a fiddle as the brackets are behind it. I used clear nylon ties (not black like they provided) and once installed they are not noticeable either. Will get pictures to back this up and i have kept the templates if that is of any use to anyone. Regards Chris.
dangerous brain
I also think that this grill sticks out too far at the front. It really does need to be recessed which is why I made my own. I got all the bits I needed from B&Q coming to a heady £35 ish to include a sheet of grill material some high strength araldite and a 90 degree section of ally and a thin strip of ally. I took the bumper off as it was freezing outside not a technically demanding job at all, and fitted the grill in a fashion that I could still unscrew it when the bumper is back in place. You could do it so that the ally 90 section isnt required but post fit removal would require removal of the bumper. I haven't sprayed the ally 90 section yet as time ran out on me and I needed the car back together. I chose the gold grilling as all my badges are gold so i thought zinc wouldn't look right. The whole job really wasn't all that technically demanding and I had enough stuff to do the small holes in the bumper as well as the two brake cooler holes down the side of the car. Todd
Well this is an old thread!! Thought I'd get one of these and try it out anyway, only £36 inc delivery and kind of hoping the black on black will look OK. Will post a pic up once it is fitted. Todd
All i can say is What a piece of ill fitting kit, looked terrible once it was fitted and what a bloody job that was. Left it on for 2mins, ripped it off, took the surrounding rubber of the mesh and refitted it inside the scoop. Looks very nice now but I have to say DONT buy this, well in my opinion anyway
JohnA
The Supra literature makes a point about the lack of grills in a desperate attempt for improved Cd. I'd only use plastic mesh personally, and that would have to be as deep down as possible, if airflow disruption is to be kept minimal. I'd certainly avoid B&Q meshes as well, they rust very quickly
