Ibrar Jabbar
I have picked a virus possibly through a dodgy email attachment, basically what happens is my default homepage (MSN) keeps changing back to some Real search engine website(http://0ml.net/cat) even after I change it back to MSN in the internet properties folder. I have tried a full virus scan using Norton Antivirus 2005 I have even purchased xoftspy and removed loads of tracking cookies etc. The problem keeps reoccuring and recently My PC will automatically try and shut down. Can anybody assist all help much appreciated, thanks.

terribleturner
Had the same thing the other week. I used the first 2 in Steves' list and there's no problems now. My one was called something like "The Best Search Engine" and i kept getting lots of unwanted pop ups ALL the time. My Norton was crap with it. tDR
Spyware / Adaware - Download Adaware from http://www.lavasoft.com - it's completely free and is the best all rounder... there's also Microsoft's own Spyware prog in beta which is very good but only for 2k / xp. Cheers, Brian.
jot_ie
Try using Mozilla Firefox. Its a web browser, just like Internet Explorer. Built in anti pop-up control. Less likely to get viruses, worms etc... Just clean your system first using some of the previously mentioned software. Regards John
garetheves
Jot, you just beat me to it. Was gonna say, where most people fall down ius using the crappy IE. Download Mozilla firefox and remove IE. Firefox is ace. plus you can download loads of cool plugins through it like Mouse Gentures, where if you move your mouse a certain way (ie backwards) while holding down say right mouse button, it takes you cak a page in the browser. Neat. Gaz
JustGav
A good program to check once you have run all those spyware units is something called HijackThis which will it isn't a remover lets you know what is still tied into IE.
