Supragal
Worth a watch, probably quite an eye opener for those who don't know about ponies... http://www.westfallhorsemanship.com/media/128do.wmv
Carl_S
Saw a horse the other day. Can't remember if it was TV or in real life. But I wanted to learn how to ride it. Must feel pretty fantastic. Maybe appreciate my 460 BHP more then.
Supragal
Do it then. Nothing like a ~40mph gallop!!
Carl_S
Hmm. I bet. Worried about my goolies though. I guess thats why more women ride than men.

I think it's because it has a reputation for being a girly sport. Something to do with 6 year olds with plaits in their hair and ponies... so far from the truth If you ride correctly your goolies won't be a problem. Tigger
A fantastic bit of Parelli, I had a go at it once. Would love to have the time to do it again. Certainly more male pros then female so no lame excuses
Dave F
Just showed my other half this as she is well into her horses. She tried to teach me twice a few years back unsuccesfully but I will try again at some point. The strange thing is that if I go over 70 in the car she hates it but doesn't think twice about bombing across a field at god knows what speed. A little piccy of our nag Cass on the right and her friends on the left with our mutt.

Thing is, belting about on a horse, chances are you won't crash into someone else... plus the horse knows what it's doing, wheras a car doesn't i.e. if the driver makes a mistake. That's the best explanation I thought of, coz it's true! Hairing round a x-country course is dangerous for sure but it never seems it!! You should definately get into it, be nice to go out for a hack together.

Yep makes sense I suppose I will give it another shot at some point this summer just not on her as she spooks at everything She threw Jane off last week and her leg caught in the stirrup, just glad she did'nt bolt. Last time must have been when I was about 14 in france. I'm not particularly comfortable with the horses not wearing underpants - bit jealous, unsettled. But the one I saw the otherday seemed so strong and beautiful. I'm afraid I would not be satisfied with a trot. I'd want to gallop at some stage too. Sitting on an animal as a means of fun transport must be awesome in this technological age. I dont have to buy a hat those silly pants and a cane though do I? Supragal
I dont have to buy a hat those silly pants and a cane though do I? Silly pants... do you mean jodphurs? Well, I think blokes look stupid in them but I promise if you ride in jeans you'll soon realise why Jods exist! Not only are the stretchy so they are more comfortable but without them you will find that the skin/flesh on the inside of your legs gets pinched and bruised horribly. Hard hat. YES. Can not stress it enough. Not just for riding either, if you are handling them too. Anytime you are around horses you should wear a hat. Horses are incredibly big and powerful and we nail metal to their feet which can make them lethal. They also have BIG teeth so if you meet a grumpy one be careful lol

No, doesn't sound like the right horse to learn on. I started teaching my other half before I retired my last horse, he wasn't exactly ideal either, but it was funny :/

I dont mind cowboy pants. will have to find some if I ever horse ride. But thats the thing. Aready theres a barrier to even starting. U need specialist equipment. No guy will buy the stuff just to give horse riding "a go". perhaps two pairs of jeans and a cycle helmet is a way around....
Supragal
Cycle helmet won't afford anywhere near enough protection, and nowhere would let you ride with that. However most riding schools will be able to lend you a hat. Then all you need is a pair of jeans (you'll be ok learning in them) and flat soled shoes/boots with a small heel. SupraGirlie
That video is very impressive, I tried riding bare back before, could barely stay on at a trot! I do miss riding, I have horses in my family which I could easily ride, I just never do! I will definatly start again it's also great for toning up. Supragal
You'd be suprised how much exercise it provides. Believe it or not you will break a sweat and get out of breath. Charlotte
perhaps two pairs of jeans and a cycle helmet is a way around.... Don't be an idiot. As Rosie said you need a proper helmet for riding. My mum and her best friend were riding out one weekend, her friend was wearing a hat but in those days they weren't anywhere near as protected as they are now. She fell off and died.
