Got my renewal in today for my tax as its up the end of the month

3 months tax - 347 euros

6 months tax - 683 euros

Full Year - 1231 euros

now thats a kick in the gooleys lol

FFS! I'd no idea you guys had to pay so much. What's your public transport like?

£180? lol try €1100. You brits make me sick complaining

I simply wouldn't pay that for the Tiger. I did about 350 miles last year - at your prices that would be €3.14 per mile!

Instead it's 0.51p per mile, I still think I'm quite justified to complain at that.

Excuse my ignorance but why have a I got to get a tax disc before Wednesday to avoid the higher rate Pete? I would like to know as I'm just waiting on my insurance document so I can tax the pug at the post office.

Tax may go up in the budget.

Although, he promised before it was going to go up by a fiver a year, presumably in April.

Because your Tax starts in April they charge you the extra from now. It happened to me last year, hence the warning.

Let me guess this straight. As of this minute there is no super massive price hike.

Pete is merely suggesting/speculating that there will be.

AFAWK it'll be another fiver on last years price.

I don't know what the rise will be, but I'm sure there will be one and I'd rather us all save our money collectively.

I think I understand now. If I go pay for my car tax now it will effectively be from the begining of March, but if I go later this month it will start from Aprils price. Have I got that right? :innocent:

In theory yes, but if your car is already taxed to the end of March, I think Pete is saying that they will send you a new one to run from 1st april even if it is before the supposed cut off date of the 15th. Hopefully i will find out tomorrow.

The pug didn't have any tax so I just turned the theory in practice down the post office and it cost me the old rate :) I now have turbo diesel power :eyebrows:

On my renewal note at the end of the online process it definitely says starting from 1st April so all good.

On my tax renewal form it says : THE RATES OF DUTY WERE CORRECT WHEN PRINTED IF THEY CHAGE IN THE BUDGET A NEW RATE MAY BE PAYABLE. THE EARLIEST YOU CAN APPLY FOR A TAX DISC IS 15.03.08.

seems like we cant avoid it by getting it early. I'm going to sell this car, my forester runabout, anyway, and get a prius / small petrol/ diesel car.

Gordon Brown has it bout right, very sneeky but effective way of making us change our petrol habits.

Not selling the supe unless they stick an ireland size tax on it.

My wasn't a renewal so I was ok :) But the woman in the post office said she hates this time of year as she has to explain and argue with customers about the price increase because of the budget.

Because they capped the 25 year old rule to cars made before this date.

I'd like to rebuild a tax exempt classic with a modern reliable diesel engine when funds permit.

My supra is on thin ice. :D Especially after my insurance quote for the bug with the 2ltr motor, 7k agreed valuation, fully comp was 260 quid.
