That new IS-F

A Lexus IS-F was at brunters today and gave my Supra an utter kicking, it takes off like a dragster and does not relent as it gathers pace. The speed trap was as far along the runway as the organisers dared so we had about 1.6 miles to play with, I trapped 161mph with double decats and a new Smic, this thing trapped 171mph and was still pulling hard yet it was completely standard. The game has moved on.

Was this the VMAX day? Any news on that?

It's a nice car that IS-F. It was on Fifth Gear last week.

Results still coming in. I felt awful so didn't mingle like normal and vegetated in my mates Jaguar between my runs so I don't know many speeds recorded yet. Had a really good run against a 993 Carrera, the passenger got some good pics too which I'll put up when he uploads them. The new smic was good, car felt really strong and pulled all the way to 6200rpm in top, which it didn't do with my original cooler last time out.

Completely standard? They only do 168 stock...

Engine Size 4969 cc

Cylinders 8

0-60 mph 4.6 s

Power Output 417 bhp

Valves 32

Torque 505 Nm 372 lb-ft

Top Speed 168 mph

Does have 8 gears though.

If it gave you a kicking i would be very surprised if it was stock.

It's electronically limited to 168mph though, for some reason (270km/h?). 8 gears as well? Acceleration would be superb as you're flying through them. I bet it's lighter than a Supe too.

Lovely, lovely car. Maybe not as good as an M3, though.

Ok lets play your game:

Engine size: 2997

0-60: 5.1

Power: 365bhp

Torque: 360lbft

Top speed 112/155.

4 gears

Other- Lexus cd- 0.30 vs Supra 0.33

Figures speak for themselves.

The 155 is the UK limited Version, the 112 is the japanese limited version. I'm guessing you have de-restricted your car?

I can understand it beating you, but beating you by such a margin? Its mega heavy too. Also its faster top end than its meant to be. I don't think i've ever seen that in a car. Especially if it was still pulling strong after 170.

Maybe the new Lexus has a higher BHP than the official figures. It appears to be the case with the new GT-R so maybe it's some new fad amongst Japanese car manufacturers.

Hmm possibly. Does the GT-R also have a faster 0-60 and higher top speed than spec?

Not sure. It seems to be able to achieve them despite being pretty heavy. It's also been tested faster than more powerful, lighter cars.

Gazboy has mentioned that dyno runs in Japan have shown figures around 530 bhp IIRC.

Yeah i saw that thread, pretty strange but no doubt there will be a reason.

Surely the trick gearbox has a lot to do with that though, might be the same idea as the lexus. On 5th gear they showed it doing 0-100, i think, and the GT-R was by far the easiest to launch. He got 3.8s - 60 on his first go lol.

Scott, I'm struggling to comprehend why you are having such a hard time with this, the ISF has more power, nearly as much torque, has lower drag coefficient and vastly superior gear ratios.

Ok so the limiter isn't as strict as a BMW's yet Audi are famed for having very linient limiters, EVO recorded 176mph out of a 155mph limited Audi RS4.

At this speeds the odd 100kg here or there is irrelevent, it just comes down to power versus drag, as the results from the 14 events Craig has run will show you- how do you think a two tonne Merc can post much higher speeds than a one tonne TVR, my car posted higher speeds than a 5.0 Chimaera despite weighing half a tonne more- oh no hang on you'll agree with that as it's a pro-Supra statement.
