Homer
Another thread today reminded me to post this... I need to check the status of Dudes old car on the vehical register, primarily whether it's cat C or D. Also to see what sort of mileage it has (from the underneath it doesn't look like its done many miles) The problem is I still don't have the V5 as it can take ages for replacements to arrive. Does anyone know of any HPI checks that can be done on the reg/chassis number alone? The 'proper' HPI check asks for the V5 number which I don't have yet. Pabs
I don't know if this helps mate, but Textcheck (83600) do a check on car history for £3, and txt you back in about 2 txt messages with some basic info. It's always advertised on tv - and I've used it 4 times this weekend when looking at cheap runabouts to find out that 2 were cat c or d!!! Website is http://www.textcheck.co.uk - doesn't say much tho.
Pabs
Incidentally - I only txt 83600 with the reg number, and it comes back with the following: Car make/model, year. VIN number (mostly *** out, but last 4 digits are visible) Number of owners Colour changes, stolen or scrapped history Then 2nd txt gives: Category of damage (C or D) and date of registered damage. Insurers decision, and also date of VIC pass if applicable. All for £3 - thought it was quite good myself.
Kranz
I can get an HPI done for free, just give me the registration number.
Homer
Thanks Pabs. I've seen the adds for those but wasn't clear on the details they provide. I'd idealy like to know the last known mileage but you've confirmed they don't provide this. I can get an HPI done for free, just give me the registration number. Nice one Steve, you have PM
Homer
Hmm, I just checked on that number Pabs and it says there's no record of this number on DVLA or police database DVLA confirmed a few weeks ago it was on their database and the plate was verified against the chassis number. Maybe it doesn't work if the plate has been changed in the past...
Pabs
hmmm, not sure there I'm afraid mate. They DO give mileage checks once you have the initial checks - they send you a txt with how to get mileage check for £1.50 extra. I've not actually used this tho. I've checked out 4, if not 5 cars through this number now - all have worked, come back with correct VIN numbers, details and a history of the car. 3 cars have been fine, 2 cars had accidents. Maybe because it's an import? Not sure really. Sorry!
