If you throw enough money at a football team it could win anything

hogmaw
Hi Trig I am always interested in hearing how people get to support a team that's not local to them - what's your story?
Trig
Hi Trig I am always interested in hearing how people get to support a team that's not local to them - what's your story? Not local?? Bill Prawn
Hi Trig I am always interested in hearing how people get to support a team that's not local to them - what's your story? Never quite understand this 'You can't support them because you're not from there' arguement. I've supported Chelsea since 1970. I live 70 miles from Stamford Bridge, I used to go reularly to games, even when they were crap, and they were very crap at times. I think it's a case of free choice, if you wanted to expand this rule of thinking then why did people from Bristol (for example) like four lads from Liverpool doing a Merseysound (The Beatles) and why do English and America people drive cars made in Germany and Japan. It's all a matter of choice, I appreciate how confusing it is when someone grows up in the shadow of a big club such as Spurs or Arsenal and the supports Man Utd, but living where I did I had no choice but to look for a team to support. I still followed my local club and travelled the length and breadth of the country with them but chelsea are always my first love. Carefree wherever you may be.... I'll let Trig finish that off. Trig
What about Charlton - Millwall - Crystal Palace - West Ham? I think you are missing the fact that none of them are any good! It was my Dad who got me into Chelsea when i was about 5. He used to live there so thats why i support them. Been to a few Charlton games when i was younger tho. hogmaw
Reason why I make the point is that the lesser teams are literally dying out which is not good for anyone and deffo not good for football. Teams with the might, wealth and success of ManU, Chelsea etc 'steal' their support by luring kids in from a young age. Over the course of a supporters life, they will spend thousands of pounds with their chosen club, it's a shame that this money goes to these big clubs and not the local ones. Fair dos if people support their local Div 3 club, but a big one too just so they can see them on the telly etc, but to live in, say, Rotherham and only support, say, Chelsea is reprehensible in my view. Oh, and Chelsea are my most hated team by the way, always have been since 1989-ish for various reasons! So forgive me, it's not hard for me to be provoked when there are chelsea fans around! supra dan
i too have supported chelsea since 1970, had a few times when we almost made it to the top but never quite done it, so excuse me if i dont shed any tears for united. its been a long time coming. we deserve it! CJ
I was born in Wales and currently live just outside Oxfrord but have been a Leeds United fan for almost 40 years (yes, I am an old git ) I started supporting Leeds due to the fact that they were the first team I ever saw on TV. It was the 65-66 cup final against Liverpool. The TV' s were black and white and so you have teams wearing grey or white . Leeds stuck out as the team in white and the rest as they say, is history. In saying that, I am not a fair weather fan and have stuck by them through thick and thin (and currently thinner!) and go to 90% of home matches. Gordon F
I'll be glad when Abramovich gets bored with football and takes his money off somewhere else leaving Chelsea a squad of high earning players on long contracts with no-one to pay them. The 'buy everyone' mentality is killing the game and will cost England come the next World Cup. Chelsea have players like Scott Parker, Joe Cole and Glenn Johnson who should be vying for England places but will be overlooked because they dont play regularly for their club due to the influx of foreign imports both good and bad. I hope Liverpool turn them over and they then 'do a Newcastle' and throw away the Premier League as well. As a West Ham supporter I would love to see the receivers in at Stamford Bridge and, CJ, I may see you at Elland Road on the 26th Feb!
