Another rugby weekend

Once again, non rugby fans - look away now ;)

This is the penultimate weekend of the 6 nations championship and it promises to be a great weekend of rugby.

As it stands, the championship can still be won by any one of 4 teams (Wales, England, Ireland and France), with possibly France as the slight favourites due to the remaining fixtures.

In saying that, Wales are the only side who can win both the Triple Crown and the Grand Slam but to do so, they will have to overcome an Irish team at Croke Park today who, after a shakey start, have improved in the last 2 games. With Welsh confidence high after 3 straight wins it looks too tight to call but I have a feeling that home advantage is going to count today and can see Ireland just edging it.

England travel to Murrayfield for the annual Calcutta Cup affair and must be feeling very confident after their great win in Paris 2 weeks ago. Scotland on the other hand, are on a big low after 3 successive defeats although in the last performance against Ireland they did produce their best performance of the tournament.

In Messrs. Wilkinson of England and Paterson of Scotland, we have two of the best kickers in the world on display today and you can almost guarantee it is going to come down to who gets to kick the penalty chances! If i was a betting man I would have to take England as I think they will have too much power up front for Scotland.

The final match is tomorrow at the Stade de France where France take on Italy. As much as Italy have improved this season I cannot see them overcoming a French side at home and can see France running up a big score.

So, what do you lot think? Any rugby fans out there?

I dont believe the england game will be that clear cut, lets just hope the second half performance matches the first and they dont run out of steam like usual.

Fingers crossed.:D

As a Welshman I will be hoping for Wales, Scotland and Italy to win as that would give us the championship! :D

Come on the welsh ! this is going to be tricky, ireland at croker park, not many win there , think we last won there in 2000. as cj said confidence is up, but i got this feeling irelands going to spoil the party, and the bitter rivalry between the coaches who havn't spoken in eight years goes on ! wins for england ,france aswell ! ;);)

Scotland will be, as always looking to raise their game over the old enemy (actually thinking about it - England are the old enemy of all the teams :))

But if we can get steady after the first 20 mins then it should all be over...

Wales are confident but I think you are right about Ireland edging it - strange enough I hope Wales get it! It will mean a lot to them and see a re-emergence of the home game. Besides - like my old games master used to say - if you get beat always cheer on those who beat you! (although, in reality, we actually just gave it to them! :))

Just as long as the rugby is good eh...?

First trip to Croke Park for Wales, the only stadium which can match or even better the atmosphere at Cardiff. Triple Crown at stake for both teams but the Grand Slam as well for Wales. Ireland missing three first choice back in Dempsey Murphy and D'Arcy but have picked a hooker who can throw in and also have Paul O'Connell back. Wales playing good stuff at the moment, but it does seem that Gatland doesn't know what his best team is and tinkers too much, Ranieri style. Ireland win for me :)

Scotland can always play above their ability against England. Mistake for England to drop Cipriani and also Wilkinson is not the player he was five years ago. Scotland to frustrate England and disrupt their 'style' of play and win by a couple:)

France to beat Italy after getting roughed up a bit.

Although I will not see the Sco v Eng game I want it to be a good game of rugby, for me I hope it will be a kicking game. As mentioned Paterson V Wilkinson, for me there is no contest Paterson will be triumphant He is widely regarded as the best kicker in the world.

Although thats what Scotland has always had, good kickers.

I fear a mauling to be honest however if we can play the same defensive game that we played in 2006 iirc where we won, then who knows we may soften the blow or may sneak a win.

as a cornishman, may i be the 1st to congratulate you CJ.&WALES on your win today.but i've got a feeling WALES won't win the GRAND SLAM.

Ah, nice to see you back. You left quickly after we beat you at Twickenham - was it something I said? Pray tell me, what makes you so sure we wont win at Cardiff?
