Instrument Bulbs ?

Recommended Posts

Just picked mine up from the garage after A LIFE-TIME ! !

They have fixed the active spoiler:) (well...the light comes on ! )

They have fixed Cruise Control:) (upper limit seems to be ~75 ?? )

They have fixed engine management light.:)

They have fixed air-bag light.:)

HOWEVER:

It now needs new warning-light bezel - the top 'strip' - due to 'Johnnies' with screwdrivers ! ! (on order).

The rear/driver's-side speaker doesn't work (hoping just a connector where they've had dash off/on/off ?? )

AND only appear to have ~1 Instrument Bulb/light working

(bottom left speedo), noticed due to Dartford Tunnel - it IS usefull for something !

Q: are ins'cluster bulbs just little push/turn type like most other cars ? :conf:

Are they easy to get to once dash is off - I can do THAT much !

[ ps. They 'cured' the wiring faults by taking-out the convertor, SO, they

put a new speedo 'face' on with 0-115 MPH......NOT what I want

eventually - will put right when I get delimiter/etc done, BUT,

it DOES mean that;

A) Needle REALLY swings round quick now, and, (novelty value only) I

can keep the needle almost 'pegged-out' easier. :p ]

[ pps. drove Mazda 1.3 down M25....Soop back ....

highly recommended to show Soop's motorway advantage ! !   ]

I would start checking fuses first and then pull the dash panels second. If that fails bring the car to Billing and we can all have a look.

I'm pleased you have your car back but it doesn't sound like they have done a very good job either way.

Was that a very NOT subtle way of saying:

"take it to Billing" ? ? ?

Yeah, I might do.

[ I wouldn't think it's a fuse 'cos at least 1 bulb is working (I think) ]

I think - even though THEY can fix it all - I'll probably be taking a bit of the dash off tomorrow to see if I can get the rear speaker working (IF it's just a dodgy connector that is ! ! )

[ nb. I DID have a look at the rear speaker to see if it was just a wire 'off'

the speaker.... SO amazed at how easy those speakers come out

compared to the fronts ! ! ! ]

:) mmmmmm....:)

I was hoping that one of the individual wires was loose/come 'out' ? ? (I know - I'm grasping:rolleyes: )

It's ridiculous really, now that I'm not (mentally) held back by the

Engine Management Light (that was worrying - never knew ? )

It's SO easy to be reaching the limiter (~120Lep)

that I'm being held back by THAT now (probably a VERY good thing for

a while at least - should get some respect for the way it handles

at high speeds before going absolutely ballistic ? ?

(but it already feels SO controlled ! ! )

[ I'm already drooling over Pete's fitting instructions for

VFCC/DSC on TRL site ! STOP ME......! STOP ME......! ]

:D  :D  :D

YEP, 7 weeks (or is it 8 ?).....

I KNOW, I could have given it to Pete Betts or someone and they

would have sorted it in 1-2 days.

BUT

It HAD to go back to them, not really for the cost, but, 'cos I needed

to have it with a clean 'bill-of-health' so that if anything goes wrong from then on I can claim under the warranty with the

ability to say (AND backed up buy dealer !) that there was NOTHING

wrong with it to start with !

Their 'SPECIALIST' kept saying that the faults were Sensors and

switches and ECU's... I TOLD them the wiring had probably been

cut/shut wrong from a dodgy conversion !

It turns out to have been....................Dodgy Wiring..... TA DA ! !

My only fear now is that when I/Pete/someone goes to put the

VFCC/DSC on, the wiring is already cut in places (?) and it's going

to make it a bit more awkward to do [new wires needed/soldering

etc]. It all appears to be wired 'right' now but there MUST have been

'breaks'/wrong connections before.

Yes the bulbs are little push-in and turn jobbies, mounted in the back of the speedo cluster.

Toyota charge about £6-7 pound each for them, although I got a handful from SupraMan in Meopham for £3. (they are the same in the MKIII).

I had several missing for unknown reasons.

Supraman also does 180 mph speedo faces, but do try and get your original back, it is yours after all, and it annoys me the way garages take stuff without asking first.

(as an architect) In a building contract, all materials arising from demolition belong to the client, not the contractor/builder.

Unfortunately not, as the card I used to have had his old number and address. The attached map may help though, he has a yard, factory unit alongside the railway line in Meopham, Kent.

There may be an address on the UKSupras website.

Does anyone have the Toyota part numbers for these? I tried using EPC but there are several different types and I'm not sure which is which. I would be interested in the flat back style that goes in the switches, and the "normal" ones that go in the back of the speedo.
