Storing wheels & tyres

Recommended Posts

Hi...

I now have two sets of wheel and tyres for my car. Obviously one set has to be stored whilst not in use so I have bunged them in the shed.

Is there a proper way too store tyres ? I am assuming that being in the dry and out of sunlight should be enough.

Thanks.....

Sounds odd but due to the high silica content of modern tyres, you should coat them in something like 'Pledge' or 'Mr Sheen', don't polish them just spray, lay on some grease proof paper and separate each tyre if you stack them with a sheet of this paper. Cover with any old bedsheet and they will last quite some time without decay, if you stack 4 high then the bottom one should be put on top monthly, otherwise stacked in pairs will be fine.
