Problem starting the car

have had a problem when I come to start the car that I turn the key in the ignition and it either struggles to start or just clicks. On a service I had at Toyota I asked them to check the starter motor as I thought this may be the problem but they said that it was fine.

Straight after the service I had no problems and the car was starting fine. Although in the last couple of weeks it has started again and it is occuring more often.

Does anyone know of any other problem it could be?

Thanks

Chris

I replaced the battery last night, no luck, it still clicks and doesn't start first time. It doesn't take as many attempts as before and the car seems to run smoother so i'm assuming there is another problem. It takes about 2-3 attempts to start where as before it would take more.

Any other ideas?

Hey bud, I can confirm some of the others suspicions..

I went to start my sup couple of days back. Clicking like a canary on heat, was a bit pissed off. I later checked the battery with a voltmeter. IT was thowing out 10 volts which is not good.

Took out the bat, put it on a automatic charger till it showed green ( a few hours later) then refitted. No problem after that.

Remember if you use your car for short journeys (sub ten mins) you are probably depleting your battery each time, and it will end up not wanting to start.

Nothing wrong with short spins as such, just note its possible effects on the battery.

EDIT, sorry if it isnt the bat then i have no idea. was the new bat fully charged (check it yourself)

yes i get one single loud click and a sort of humming noise.

Sounds exactly like mine did when the starter motor contacts were knackered. You can buy a refurb kit from toyota to do it yourself rather than buying a new starter - but it's a bit of a PITA :taped: Replaced the contacts and it's started first time every time since. :)

Yes I agree, same thing happened to my old daihatsu fourtrak, I changed the contacts and it was fine too.
