Quick query USB Hub driver help needed/

Can someone help me out please.

I bought a 'PocketSize' (thats the brand) USB hub the model is UH-174BP.

When I go put it in windows (2000) doesn't detect it as a USB device, when I click on the arrow and go to properties it says

'the drivers device is not installed (28) to install the drivers for this device click reinstall driver'

OK SO I do this and windows finds the driver but then says:

'An error occured during installation of device. The installation failed because driver was not specified for the device instance'

Now using my very small amount of hardware knowledge (and I stress SMALL lol) I take it I need to download a driver for this device from somewhere(it didnt come with a CD).Thing is windows 2000 usually detects usb devices so im not sure what to do or get a driver from.

Can someone help?

Might be a dumb suggestion but it caught me out and you aren't getting many replies.

Is the hub one which can be (optionally) powered ?

I had one of those and unless it WAS powered my 2000 box simply didn't recognise it for what it was.

I've also seen problems a couple of times with usb 2 devices being plugged into usb 1.0 connectors - should work but hey this is windows. XP seems much better than 2000 at sorting this stuff out.

PS. you do know that the pc connector is good?

Good luck

I tried to do a search on Microsoft site and it didnt give much info on it, Im pretty sure I got serivce pack 4 - I downloaded the latest stuff only about 1 month ago.

The hub is 1.2 (im only running a printer,RF keyboard and sometime SD card)

I take it if I have USB2.0 it will be backwards compatible?

Anyway it was only 4 squids so I might just buy another but I then have to wait for it to come through and what if that one doesnt work either? Boohoo :(

Any other suggestions?

Hey Far, you can call me chris now, known ya a while...

If its external and you are talking about a desktop as opposed to a laptop, then sling it, they're right cheap and you're better off with a version 2 usb anyway. Just get a PCI card and bung it in, should come with a driver disk and presto! all done!
