400BHP
I know most of you won't find this funny, but as the technical manager of a communications company I find it hilarious... There are some second hand telephone systems on ebay at the moment, and they prices of them are amazing, that being they were either stitched up large style when sold the equipment in the first place, or they are simply stupid. Some guy had a Samsung telephone system up for about 4000 on buy it now, its not worth that even if it were brand new, its been superceeded about 18 months ago! Another device on there porports to be an ISDN30 to ISDN2 converter, its no such thing! its a digital extension to ISDN2 converter, no wonder nobody bids for these items, they're seriously overpriced, and you need to be trained on them to be able to install them! People seem to be bidding on the meridian pabx's though, and they're king of the crap systems, talk about legacy technology!

Meridian is good old robust technology! Nice and cheap too. Oh, and it's just a coincidence we own http://www.meridianphones.co.uk

400BHP
This is horse shit, £600 for a Samsung 12 button display? more like 60 quid No bids then? wonder why? 900 quid is more than its worth at best, £4000 is a joke!
Sharpie
I can receive telephone calls to my office extension number on my PC so, when I work from home or travel, I can make/take calls from my office line using only one published number. I can receive and send faxes, voicemail and email messages from the same single desktop client. If I don't have a connection to the PC from: WiFi, DSL, Dial-up while not in the office then I can use my PDA over GPRS to pick up my voicemail/email messages or if I only have GSM/POTS then use one touch dial to pick up my voicemail (Speech recognition) & email (text to speech) via the phone. Oh yeah, my Meridian must be crap
400BHP
Not much of what you say is dealt with via the PABX anyway, its normally dealt with by a computer that hangs off the switch, unified messaging is done in a computer. You most probably have a Norstar BCM not a meridian.
Sharpie
You most probably have a Norstar BCM not a meridian. CS1000M (M = Meridian) Nortel confirmed yesterday, during my visit to the MOP EBC that the "Meridian" branding is so strong that it will stay around for some time yet......it has been around for 25+ years with a BIG global install base and still at the top of it's game. LOL BCM too small for us dude I do agree that there is crap on ebay though but, why would you look on ebay for a business system ?
400BHP
Sometimes you get 2nd user equipment on there that people don't realise the true cost of, and we can use it as maintenance stock or sell it and make a margin. We only sell and maintain Avaya IP Office and one of the biggest and IMO best switch manufacturers, Siemens.

martynb
Ahem - apologies for a slight but as one system is being touted over another here goes! I have a proposal in front of me to spend shedloads on a Mitel system for a multiple branch setup. How do you guys rate Mitel? (I've been itching to use the hijack smilie for ages)
400BHP
That couldn't be answered as simply as that, what would you like to know, the system's reliability, functionality, cost effectiveness? Give me some details on your requirements and i'll give you my opinion (pm if you don't want to disclose anything) Overall though, Mitel are a good switch but they are not the best.
