Pabs
Hey all, A long shot, especially on a supra forum, but what the hell.... I'm after a cheap runaround, and ideally I'd want it to be a VAG car (VW, SEAT, Audi etc) It must be cheap on insurance (groups 1-7) and cheap on tax ( I've been looking at mk4 Polo's and mk2 ibiza's, a couple of pug 106's. Car must be mechanically sound, but don't mind mileage. Must also be sub £1000. PM me if you see anything or have anything! Thanks
garetheves
My N reg 306 1.4 petrol may be available in the next few weeks, just waiting to here back from a friend. Only looking for 450 quid for it. Mechanically has never let me down, starts every time no matter what the weather. Body work has a few dings but nothing major. Its the 5 door model with electric sunroof. Not a bad little runaround. Pabs
here's my 306 for sale mate - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/390045.htm Thanks Jamesy, but unfortunately that is too big an engine, and therefore too expensive on both tax and insurance. Thanks anyway

Pabs
bump - I think I really want a Polo or Ibiza - went to see one today and loved it but unfortunately owner (trade) seemed to be hiding a lot - v5 not present, clutch on way out, cracked windscreen and headlight...... Must be more out there... i hope!
Pabs
Still looking folks: Saw 3 cars this weekend - 2 today were both write-offs (cat c and cat d) but far too pricey with that considered...... As close to Basingstoke as possible would be a huge benefit! Ta
Pabs
bump - still looking.... Am considering various different hatchbacks now - Pugs, VW's, possibly vauxhall corsa/astra, golfs too. Must be petrol and in lower tax bracket - not going to bother with diesels now. ta
Scooter
there are 4 decent looking (as in reliable work horses/commuters not beauty contest winners) 205 pug's within 20 miles or a RG22 6AW postcode.......... I'm a big fan of these, particularly the diesel (which i know you said you don't want!) but the 1.1's don't get slated for being gutless or unreliable....... for 2 years or more now i have commuted (20 miles each way) in a 205 and whilst the supra is taxed and insured all the time i probably use it to commute once or twice a month, which i think is testimony to the 205's 'bearability' (and fuel economy!) Just personal experience, may be too old for you etc but worth a mention as in many ways i think they are better than some of the more modern small cars....... Pabs
thanks mate - I've had a quick look and they don't look too bad. I actually think I prefer the 106's to the 205's - slightly newer - but they are definately a bit mroe expensive. Do you know if these are as reliable as the 205s? Engine specs all look the same.... Scooter
Do you know if these are as reliable as the 205s? Engine specs all look the same.... i think all pug diesels are pretty hardy...........not so sure on the petrol ones.........106's mean they are definitely fitted with a cat which you need to make 100% sure is ok for however long you think of owning it........ i can't really help too much with the 106 as at their prices, whilst they are probably fine to drive, i haven't looked past 205's.... If i were you i'd just look at a few very local cars, one of the 205's is 1 mile from the above postcode and i think there was good looking FSH fiesta local too, go with an open mind on the model and you may find a well cared for little gem of a car which, regardless of its marque, will serve you well.........
