Vibration And Noises

I have got three problems that may or may not be related:

1. Vibration through steering wheel under braking.

2. Vibration through steering wheel at higher speeds.

3. Knock when deacelerating/changing gear.

Looking through previous posts the general opinion would be:

1. Discs warped.

2. Wheel bearing.

3. Subframe bolts or transmission mounting.

However:

1. Discs are like new (no heat patches from being cooked, don't feel warped).

2. No play in front wheels.

3. All subframe bolts seem to be tight, however the propshaft seal has been leaking maybe making the transmission mount rubbers loose.

What i would like to know is would the transmission mount cause all three of these problems? Also is there anything else i can check?

number 2 turned out to be a badly balanced wheel on my car, but it could be something else.

Number 3 ive got this issue and so do many others. Im led to believe that its either a worn propshaft/joint, gearbox mounts (and mine are oily from weeping gearbox) or something on the clutch mechanism :(

Does it make the noise when you put the clutch down or at other times?

1 and 2 were issues I suffered from simultaneously last year. New front discs/pads cleared 80% of them, the rest disappeared having my front wheels balanced and full geo checked. My nearside front toe angle was marginally out (0.1 degrees or something!) and sorting that made such a difference I couldn't believe it!

No. 3 I've no idea on though :D

Do you still have those re-conned alloys? I'd put money on them being the problem. We I had the car they needed to be balanced quite a bit, you may have lost a weight.

Not sure about item 3? no idea what that is.

Hi Gareth, nice to hear from you. Had all the wheels off the other day and rebalanced them. They were all about 10-15gs out but it has done nothing to the wheel wobble. Will probably be getting some new alloys anyway due to the tyres being near the legal limit. Did you hear about the issue i had with the builders fence?

Edit... The wheel wobble might also be down to the tyres.

Hi Sparky I didn't explain number 3 very well. Rather than an actual noise it is more of a feel through the car e.g. (feel it through the gearstick) this is why i believe it could be the transmission mount as it no longer looks as strong due to the oil leak on the rubber.

Hi mate, all discs and pads look pretty new. I have recently painted the calipers so i think i will give the discs a skim just in case any paint or laquer has accidently got on them or they have warped etc.

Hi Again, sorry I'm not much help, please post some pics when you get the new alloys.. Hope you sort the trouble out.

Nope what happened with the fence, I've not been on here for a while, so not up to speed with things.. please tell me it's not that bad... did you hit a fence? :taped: are you okay? I'll switch on PMing again to save the thread.

Lol ill try to explain better.

Have you got a 6 speed box?

My 6 speed box is weeping from the propshaft seal and maybe the selector seal (not sure on that one). If yours is leaking ive been advised that the oil could have degraded the rubber transmission mounts, so that when you change gear the box moves slightly and makes a noise!

Hi sparky, got your pm about this and yes mine is a 6 speed. Looks like i will be going to nic to buy some TRD engine and transmission mounts as they are cheaper than OEM ones, even with my discount.

Could you pm me if the price please so i dont have to ask nic as well. Cheers
