RedM
Let's work backwards. When you say it's not working what exactly do you mean? Does it whirr and spin away? Does the read light come on? Taking a guess I'm wondering if you have put a disc in and it hasn't started automatically.

SupraShaun
Sometimes you do get strange problems where a certain make of disk wont be recognised by a certain make of CD rom- in my experience anyway
Al Massey
check that the driver has been updated mine was playing up the other day and wouldnt play any thing i went into the details and updated the driver and it now works fine no harm in checking steve
supra steveo
how do i do that al?
Shovels
Things I would try/consider: 1. Have you had the drive out/case open? If you have make sure the cables are seated properly, a pin could be bent, etc. The drive can be detected even with these problems, but won't read disks. 2. Does it read other disks OK? 3. Can you read the BF2 disk in another machine? Quite often when a CD/DVD player is on its last legs it can start to get funny about playing disks. New drive = £20 approx (unless you have a $ony or similar who love to make custom front bezels so theirs are silly money to replace)
supra steveo
i had it replaced 3 yrs ago coz i was told the drive was corrupt so had another fitted

Shovels
Was the old drive doing the same thing? Did fitting a new drive solve the issue? If you're in a very dusty environment you may find that the lens is getting dirty and causing the poor read performance. You can get cleaning solutions, but these are generally bad as they can knock the lens out of alignment. Have you had a chance to try the things I suggested? DamanC
Doubtful its a virus mate, a good way to tell is to try and boot from a cd. More than likely a controller has gone but even more likely is they are just caked with dust. Can you see the drives in my computer?
supra steveo
yes they are still there but when i click on them the just say "please insert disc"
