S-AFC buggered Clifford - Help

I have just had an APexi Super AFC Fuel Controller installed and after it was done, they couldn't start the car because the alarm button wouldn't work. When I arrived I input the valet code and it then started. After you turn off the ignition, the immobiliser cuts in and still no arm/unarm buttons work.

Now, each time I want to start the car, you have to enter the valet code. Any ideas what this can be. I have set and unset the valet modes and still the same. It is almost like the fob has lost the code for the alarm. Even programming mode doesn't work because you can't press the fob.

The alram is a Concept 300. Could it be because the engineers have unplugged the ECU. They have saif that the battery hasn't been touched and I have tried taking the earth off the battery and putting it back on.

Help........:(

Does sound like the alarm has had the fobs wiped. Have you tried re-enabling the fob, you (obviously) don't need the fob working in order to do that. Have you tried your 2nd fob if you've got one? May be pure coincidence that the battery in your first one has failed?

Not sure how to program the fobs. Not mentioned in the manual anyway.

Is it something only an engineer can do?

I've got the same alarm and it is in the manual. Just a matter of pressing the valet buttons n number of times each.

I've tried that. It doesn't chirp after three seconds. I cannot get the thing to make any noise. If I carry on with the programming instructions as per booklet, it just ignores me.

Can't program the key fob then.

Looks like its a "Take to the dealer to get ripped off" time.

Cheers Guys

Like I said, talk to Matt, he's an alarm installer by trade and he'll probably give you a step-by-step guide or something. Are you sure it's not the alarm timing out after you've entered the wrong code too many times or something?

Hi Andy,

This sounds like it should be simple enough. All the symptoms pointing to the aerial.

Do you know where the alarms ecu is mounted?

The Clifford G4 systems use a pre-amped aerial. this MUST be plugged into the ecu or no remote signals can be recieved.

The early aerial units plugged into the ecu and had a small black plastic control unit about 6" further down the harness. the aerial itself is just a single cable that "should" be mounted to the top of the front screen in a plastic cover about 6" long.

The later aerials just have a 3 core loom that runs directly to a little black box with G4 stamped on it and a 6" rod type aerial coming from the other end. This "should" be mounted with the aerial facing down the front screen.

Which ever you have, you'll find a small plug at the ecu. Remove this plug and leave it out for a couple of minutes.

When you put the plug back in MAKE SURE IT GOES IN SQUARE otherwise you'll bend the tiny pins inside the ecu. It's a bugger of a plug.

The early aerials are not the most reliable of things, although we usually found this out during installation. If they work to begin with, they usually work ok. The later ones have a better range and I've not had a faulty one yet:)

If you still have any problems, you can call me on 01622 683044 or, if you are local'ish, I'm in Maidstone if you want to bring it over.

I'll post this on the BBS in case anyone else ever has this problem.

Good luck

Matt

Cheers Mate.

I'll check it out tonight.

Unfortunatley, i'm in Preston (300 miles away) so won't be bothering you with a visit.

Can I assume this ariel will be down by the passenger footwell (where the cars ECU is), or is it near the siren under the bonnet.

They have been playing with the ECU on the passenger footwell you see.
