adam bell Posted February 24, 2008 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Adam I have the Yamaha DSPAX1 how does the DSP-Z11 compare and to whats out there? for that money i allways like the denon units like avc-a1x i think for music and home cinema amps the very top end denon seem to be a bit better. dspax1 classic amp i wouldnt change it really,i know some of the new amps have more connections and such but the overall sound quality wont be to different only on true hd audio via the hdmi if you have a compatible bluray machine that does it. the new panasonic blueray machine at 349 will have the true hd audio that the other cheaper blue rays dont. Guest Garfy Posted February 24, 2008 Share Posted February 24, 2008 my advice would be, get the best you can afford for now, but make sure its a seperates system, i.e. amp and separate speakers, that way you can upgrade each item as and when you can afford it, make sure your amp has a set up mic, makes life much much easier. this is my set up, I'm very happy with it now, but its taken about 4 years to get to this stage, with items being upgraded as and when I could afford it, I'm on my 3rd amp, 3rd set of front speakers, 5th centre chanel, and 3rd pair of rears, oh and 1st set of presence speakers, which I forgot to photograph, but they go right out in the front corners of the room, works well for me because I can't really get my fronts wide apart enough and still have a practical room, but one thing I will say is, each speaker is important as the other, I used to concintrate on the fronts, but since I have matched the system, WOW what a difference!!!!! as you will see the Amp is a yamaha (can't remember the model) and the speakers are all Bowers and Wilkins XT series, they are fantastic. I like the Yamaha AX861 amp other than it can't upscale to 1080p and it lacks some of the surround sound formats. To me, the obvious competitor is the Onkyo TX-SR605 which can be had for around £350 which does 1080p upscaling with it's v1.3a HDMI ports (rather than the v1.1's on the Yamaha) and covers just about every existing and new sound format like the HD sound ones. Should that be the amp I go for rather than the Yamaha? Are there any drawbacks with it, IE does the Yamaha do anything better? Cheers, Brian. Found a good site that does the Onkyo 605 for £360 delivered and then looked at what complimentary speaker packages they offered. They (and reviews) reckon these are the perfect match: http://www.onkyo-now.co.uk/product.php?fdProductId=33 I'd be increasing my budget a fair whack but what do we think? Would seem a decent all round setup for £810 delivered. Do you get cables with the speaker sets or do I need to look for them too? Adam - Could you better this package deal? Also should I invest in just a decent HDMI cable to go from the Onkyo to the Panasonic Plasma PZ70B? As I'm thinking the supplied HDMI cable with the Tiscali TV box should be fine given it's an SD signal it's inputting to get upconverted then transmitted to the TV via the decent cable? What about my Xbox elite, will the HDMI cable supplied with it be fine for 1080P passed through to the telly via the amp? Cheers, Brian. Not really, onkyo are among the best amps you can get Go for it matey I run my B&W MT30's with a denon 4306 amp and it really sound amazing, for small speakers it kicks ass I also have the panasonic pv70 50" hd 1080p tv and the samsung bluray player Mike Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Perfect then ...I spent £235 on cables (inc Sub) for a £1.8k system. The MT30's are seriously nice - I just don't like the centre (folder over std speaker). I checked the Q Acoustic speaker spec and it does say banana type connection and not bi-wired (I'm guessing that's 2x lots of cabling to each speaker for whatever reason?). Soonto_HAS_soop Posted February 24, 2008 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Onkyo TX-SR605 I bought this one month ago, very good value for money I just bought the 705 and it beats my previous Technics DTS amp hands down. Got it linked to a 52" 1080p screen and running Kefs centre, sides and rear with monitor audio fronts and sub.
