Pabs
What makes you think I'd forgotten about that? lol..... think we've caught you out there What are your thoughts on the pug now that you've had it for a short while? Pleased?
RedM
What are your thoughts on the pug now that you've had it for a short while? Pleased? I am rather enjoying it TBH. Obviously it's about 230bhp down on the Supra but it goes well enough for the type of journeys it'll be doing. Handling is great. Much more chuckable than the Supe and more forgiving too. It's a joy on the roads around my village. I drove to the supermarket today and actually pulled into a space without thinking about what kinds of people drive the cars I was parked next to. Whether they would throw open the doors and hit the car or not. An AM Vantage then rolled along behind me and went all the way to the end where it was empty. I resisted the temptation to go and park next to him.
Pabs
that's good to know - thanks mate. Still not sure if I'll get a 306 or a VW, but I'll have to test drive one of each I think!
RedM
It was my first drive to work in the Pug today. Positives: -Really frugal on the fuel usage side. Honestly, I thought the gauge had broken. I'm heading for 100 miles to £10, I reckon. -A lot less stressful than driving the Supra. -Smaller therefore more nimble than the Supra. -Takes speed humps with ease. -Quick (in relative terms) once it gets going. -Handles REALLY well. Negatives: -Noisy. -Needs to be in third before it gets really going. 1st and 2nd are rubbish. -Not a Supra. Booking it in for a full service soon so that I know all is well. I have to say that I'm loving it but I do miss the Supe.

Pabs
Martin - would I be right in assuming the tax on this is £180/year (being over 1549cc) and the insurance is a group 5? Is that right? 92bhp? ta
RedM
£180 per year tax is correct. Insurance is group 5 ..and yes, a paltry 92bhp!
Pabs
well, in comparison with some of the other cars I'm looking at - 92bhp is good! I'm not sure whether I should get a smaller engine (
RedM
We went for a 1.9 diesel so that we could do long trips on the m-ways without revving the nads off the car and also to avoid the hunt for V-power at each end. If I lived nearer my family I'd have gone the small engine route.
Pabs
thanks mate. I'm going to put full effort into selling my current car - then I need to get on some test drives I think. I've been doing insurance quotes + overall costs for some cars (all quotes for me from confused.com) SEAT Ibiza 1.4 Salsa (group 4) - £157.84 - Tax £115 - Overall £272.84 VW Polo 1.4SE (60bhp) (group 4) - £185.50 - Tax 115 - Overall £300.50 Pug 306 1.9D Turbo (group 5) - £172.22 - Tax 180 - Overall £352.22 VW Polo 1.6CL (3dr) (group 4) - £185.50 - Tax £180 - Overall £365.50 SEAT Ibiza 1.9D (group 6) - £187.38 - Tax £180 - Overall £367.38 Peugeot 306 2.0 xsi (group 10) - £231.50 - Tax £180 - Overall £411.50 So the pug Diesel does quite well
RiceRocket
I think gocompare.com will produce cheaper quotes
Pabs
I'm not worried on exact insurance costs at the mo - this gives me a ballpark figure which will hopefully be lower once i shop around and know what I want. Really think I'm gonna go for a 306D Turbo - will need to check turbo is ok and i understand heater matrix is a big problem, but seem to be plentiful on autotrader/PH and some nice looking ones too! Anyway - must stop thread hijacking again! cheers for your help Martin! Maybe see you on the pug forums lol

RobSheffield
It would appear to be a photoshop, but there was that thread on the guy putting a TT engine into a
Thorin
Isn't that Kev Huntley's engine bay in that photoshop? A while ago now though. I did once see a 205 drag car at York that was running 8's I believe. Wasn't exactly road legal though.
RedM
Mind you, I can't see I'd need that much power especially as it took three hours to get from Morley to Wakefield this evening!

RedM
Did you break down? No. A lorry overturned. First time I've ever got out of a car on the m-way. Stationary for fifty minutes at one point! I did have a laugh at the muppets who tried to drive down the hard shoulder. The police were waiting in unmarked cars and no-one was letting the cheats back on so the police were catching them like fish in a barrel.
Charlotte
No. A lorry overturned. First time I've ever got out of a car on the m-way. Stationary for fifty minutes at one point! Nightmare! Were there other people getting out too? You should have put local radio on.
RedM
Lots of people just standing about, stretching their legs. I can't use the radio as I have no aerial. First on my list of bits from the breakers yard.
