styggen82
just took my flywheel(stock TT) of and had a machine shop "turn" it.. when I got it back they have machined it down almost 1 mm on the surface where the clutch disk will be. anyone that have had any experience with flywheels that are machined down a bit? is 1 mm too much? it`s a stock flywheel..... styggen82
I thought they shouldn't be re-surfaced had to, it was all scratched and out of line, and I`m in a hurry to get the car moved:)
johnd-mkiv
I thought they shouldn't be re-surfaced Same here, as its a dual mass flywheel
steb9780
Yep no worries, I was just under the impression that it shouldn't really be done. It might be worth getting a new one in there at some point. They aren't massively priced for what you're getting.
styggen82
the plan was to get a new one but I`m having some problems getting it fast enough... here`s a picture of it, will let you guys know if it works:)
Tricky-Ricky
Do not use it! its just going to slip, as its been turned on the friction face only, so the cover plate will have less clamping force as a result, also it must have been pretty bad as you can still see the score marks! and unless its been turned using the front face as datum, it will not be true, have patients and wait for a new one, or you will be making yourself work. Digsy
Do not use it! its just going to slip, as its been turned on the friction face only, so the cover plate will have less clamping force as a result Tha will just be the same as having a worn clutch disk though, won't it? The pressure plate should adjust for the wear (or the pedal travel will be different - not all clutches are self-adjusting). Anyway, I agree in principle. 1mm is a lot to remove. I'd wait for the new one to arrive.

Yeah, like a worn clutch if he uses a new friction plate, if he puts an old one back well! shame to install anew plate and knacker it, also the flywheel turning doesn't look to true to me, and the score marks are still there:blink:
styggen82
It`s actually heat that have made those marks;) hardened on several places. the face is true, They used the front plate as datum. and I have ordered a new one, not gonna use it:)
