Pixelfill
Help ! I fitted RLTC at the weekend, and have had no problems at all ... until this afternoon. When I started the car to come home from work it all seemed normal - I put it into Drive and the car lurched forward more violently than usual - at the time I assumed I hadn't my foot on the brake hard enough. As I moved off, the car was a bit hesitant, and was running lumpy. The rev counter was bouncing about a bit. I continued on my journey, and as I pulled out of work the car seemed to be misfiring - AFR of around 10 and steady. I pulled up and stopped the car. When I started the car it seemed fine in Neutral / Park, AFR still quite low, but it was still cold so that is the norm. The AFRs moved up to about 11.7 and as I moved into Drive again the car lurched, and I set off again. Further down the road, the car was "lumpy" again, but now the MIL light was flashing dimly, and intermittantly when the car was above 2000 RPM. I have the RLTC digital adjuster so switched the display to show a graph of cuts, the RLTC wasn't sending any. I switched to RPM, and occasionally the RPM dropped to really low (in the hundreds). I pulled up again, and had another look. With the car in Neutral it seemed to settle down again, so I set off, I now had to join a dual carriageway, and the car started to misbehave again. after about a mile, there is a layby, so I signalled to pull into it at which point the car stalled I parked the car, immobilised it, then turned off the immobiliser, and restarted the engine. The car seemed fine again, I popped the bonnet and had a play around underneath, the injectors sounded a bit louder than normal, (but that might have been me being super sensitive). when I blipped the throttle the car seemed fine, even under sustained throttle there wasn't anything untoward, and when I got back in the car and continued on my journey the car was running 14.7 AFRs and behaved very well all the way home. (about 6 miles) When I got home I checked the error codes, and the engine light was just flashing away at a regular pace - no error codes stored. Anyone have any idea what it might be, I'm fairly sure that the RLTC isn't doing anything untoward, however when we went out to test the RLTC after connecting the battery I didn't do the full learn process. I would have thought that an ECU learn issue would have manifested itself earlier. (I've been to work and back 2 times, and driven down the motorway to Standish, short journey to a pub, and then back from Standish to Preston this week.) and the idle has been around 650 RPM I'm concerned as I have to drive across to MiamiGT first thing tomorrow and I don't want the car to misbehave on that journey, so any advice gratefully received. Pixelfill
I was joking above matey - if it was really urgent I would have rung.I did just try ringing you at home to return your call - but no answer. She seems to be running okay again - I've been out 4 times since and no problems at all. just concerned because it felt Baaaad. I'm thinking it might be ECU learning, so if it happens again I'll reset the ECU and try again - no urgency to speak now, but appreciate your call. jevansio
Is it possible one of the connections where the RLTC intercepts the injector signal is faulty. When I installed it on my old MR2 one of the connections wasn't sound and had the effect of intermittently knocking a cylinder out (even though the RLTC unit itself wasn't attempting to cut an injector).
