oil overfill - how bad??

Mine was well overfilled by the previous owner. For the first month I owned it, it was spewing oil out of the BOV and the oil was collecting in a little river under the induction cone! I was worried about where the oil was coming from and my local garage told me it was a seal on #2 turbo.

But now the oil level is right on the max on the dip stick, and no more oil is being ejected. So I think there was nothing wrong with the turbo afterall! I wish I'd taken other people's advice and drained some oil right from the start!!

I've told this story before, but it's a cracker...

I ran my first ever car, 903cc Seat Ibiza, for about 16 months without any maintenance at all, when I suddenly decided to start looking after it.

One day, while at Uni I checked the dipstick, and it was right at the bottom of course, so I went and bought a 5 litre tub of basic oil.

I asked a friend how much oil to put in a car, and he said "most cars take about 4-5 litres"

In it went...it ran very smooth for a while.

How much is too much?

Kwik-fit always fill it up to just over the max line on the dipstick.

MAX LINE means that it should not be filled above that. thats why its there for. pass that on to kwik-fit if you can :p

ps mobil 1 is to thin for the supra.

i've accidently overfilled my oil on my tt after topping it up, its well over the full mark and can be seen on the wire of the stick, anything to panic about?

If it's very slightly over you should be ok but anything over 100ml = Yes, worry about it. I had a Sierra sapphire once (stop laughing :-)) and put too much oil. The seals around the cam popped, spewing out oil. I think it causes excess pressurisation and I read an article about extra oil splashing about... can't remember the exact reasons that it's bad, anyway start draining some of that oil!

mines been drinking oil since last saturday when i bought it, so im going to see if it continues to eat oil after topping up with 10/40 magnatec

Is it smoking at all? Is there any oil showing under the car after parking? Did the garage that sold you the car give you a warranty? :(

its got a 3 month warranty

no smoke, no oil under the car - the only smoke is for a minute on cold start up in the morning which is white smoke - which is condensation i presume....

theres no hope that this top up wont be gone by this time next week is there??? :( :(
