hadyn
Went out to check the oil on the supe this morning before i went out to work after being stood on the flat overnight, and to my horror the oil was right on the low mark!! I then went to my local petrol station and lobbed in 3.5 litres of magnatec 10/40 to top it up and a bit beyond the full mark. Where is the oil going? No obvious blue smoke, no smoke at all. No signs of oil leaks on the floor or tray, engine bay is so clean you could eat your dinner off it. Could it possibly be the oil put in before i bought the car was way too thin??? Will be checking the oil now on a daily basis to see whats going on.. Any ideas?
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
did u check the oil level when u bought it, if u didnt it probably needed top up then and now u have just noticed
Chris Wilson
Agree with Jurgen, you need to monitor oil usage over the next 1000 miles or so. The 2JZ-GTE isn't known as a heavy oil burner, unless the turbos are tired or valve stem seals have hardened. or worse... not wanting to worry you
hadyn
did u check the oil level when u bought it, if u didnt it probably needed top up then and now u have just noticed oil was on the half-way mark when i checked before buying it and they did a full oil change before i bought it. Oil was 1/4 down when i checked it at the start of the week..... No noises, rattles etc and pulls extremely well through the rev range with both turbos engaging when they should In fact, purrs on idle

Nice car, as was Gareths. Did you supply them both recently? If they are typical of your stock it's a credit to you, if you don't mind me saying so?! Chris Wilson
chris please advise, as itll be coming to you if somethings wrong Very hard for anyone to 100% diagnose excess oil usage. can be just one thing (say valve stem seals) or more than one thing, (a bit of stem seal wear, a bit of turbo wear, and a bit of bore wear / piston ring wear). As such effecting a guaranteed 100% cure short of a total engine rebuild can be all but impossible. One can usually take an eductaed guess and back it up with leakdown tests et ceera, but it's not an excat science i am afraid, if I'm being totally honest. I'll have look at it and run some tests with pleasure.

If they are typical of your stock it's a credit to you, if you don't mind me saying so?! i supplied them both, i think they have both now had their cars for about 6 months each, the auto was grade 4 and the tt was 3.5 due to having done 67,000 miles which in jap land is quite a lot. i only had the tt for one week in stock. keep up the good work chris. hadyn
checked the oil again this morning and there doesnt appear to be any loss yet after about 90-100 miles, it's still overfilled to the wire very very strange, the real test will be after my 300 mile weekly commute to work to see if any oil disappears
CJ
Haydn, without wishing to take work off CW, but surely if there is something wrong with the car it should go back to the guys that supplied it? As you said in another thread, it has 3 months warranty so they should put it right if need be.
hadyn
It will do if it drinks any more oil CJ, but lets give it a week to see what happens. CW is local to me and i think his diagnosis would be of more value than some 'performance' garage who think they know about cars

Ian R
Haydn mate I wouldn't run the car overfilled with oil for too long or you might be getting a decat done faster than you think
hadyn
when you say 'getting a decat done faster than you think' do you mean excess oil fouling the cats and wrecking them??? i know excess fuel fouling cats damages them
Tricky-Ricky
Running it over filled, could cause it to blow an oil seal, also it could cause a lot of oil mist/vapour to go into the induction system, via the engine breathers.
ManwithSupra
Did you find out what the problem is?
hadyn
Yeah I wasnt letting the oil settle before checking. Its best to leave your car for about 1-2 hours on a flat surface before checking the oil. Never had a problem with my old Supe
