grahamc
I think in future most stuff will be online, TVs will connect to your broadband wireless link and you can watch whatever you want at any time!! The price of broadband will probably go up and there'll be bandings depending on your download limit you choose. This would be a good way to go I think, it'd stop all the crap about piracy because if everyone pays for their download limit they can then download whatever programme/film they want! You could have pay as you go or contract TV as well!!! Assuming the quality was there DVDs would probably get sold less and less, don't know if this is a good thing or not. Would be quite interesting to see that sort of thing come in... no more TV licenses required
Charlotte
Woo hoo for PS3 owners, gutting for xbox 360 owners. I thought there were rumours that microsoft are releasing a blu-ray drive for the xbox-360 this year?
Daston
Yep I have been saying this for a long time maybe now dreamworks will bring out their films on Blu Ray! Was gutted Transformers was HD DVD only! Think Sony getting WB on their side and starting to do a deal with Fox was the nail in the coffin. It proves that marketing really sells a product. Good thing in this case the product is a good one.

Muffleman
Well I have HD but only cost me £130 as I bought the xbox360 add on. No doubt I will buy a PS3 or BR DVD machine so doesn't really vex me. What annoys me is this dual format bo**ocks that always screws the consumer. VHS \ Betamax, CD+R \ CD-R, HD DVD or BluRay etc etc.
RedM
You can keep your Blu-DVD and your HD-Death Rays. There's nowt wrong with a good old VHS tape.
Willson
So are Paramount and Universal etc gonna start releasing their films on BD? - edit, I guess so, but have they said so/when? I love my TVs, but I was completely uninterested in HD until I started going around the shops looking for a new TV. Its blooming fantastic. hoff
Never any doubt since sony used blu-ray in the ps3.
Bobbeh
I thought there were rumours that microsoft are releasing a blu-ray drive for the xbox-360 this year? I knew they had a HD-DVD drive in development. Would be interesting if Sony deny rights to Blu Ray technology to Microsoft.. as that'll stifle the X-Box's future capacity to compete. Charlotte
I knew they had a HD-DVD drive in development.. Yep, it's out there now - they do a deal where you get 5 dvds for free when you buy the drive. Would be interesting if Sony deny rights to Blu Ray technology to Microsoft.. as that'll stifle the X-Box's future capacity to compete. I guess watch this space. I still wouldn't at the moment invest in a PS3 because I can't see any games I would want, but I suppose long term it's worth it if you have the TV system setup to facilitate blu-ray. Bobbeh
Well yeah, long term is where it is for any TV / system you buy now.

Bobbeh
No at all, I had the same worries with my last response lol BTW - you would love Heavenly Sword PS3, it has a girlies doing the fighting!

Although I don't mind killing as a man in the name of research. I love burnout - I'd like to see what that looks like although it's not really famed for it's graphics, more ridiculous driving speeds. I'm absolutely rubbish at first person shooters, like I end up either going round in a circle pointing at the ceiling or at the floor. I used to be like that, I think the newer games are much better TBH, I love Rainbow and Gears of War on the 360, both pretty easy to control, haven't had a chance to go on a PS3 yet though. Supradoopa
Sounds like the Betamax vs VHS scenario to me, the lesser format has won.
Bobbeh
How is Blu Ray the lesser format? This time its the better format technically.
Bryan_Jones
Woo hoo for PS3 owners, gutting for xbox 360 owners. Well the Xbox doesn't come with a HD DVD drive. It's an optional extra. Just as well for PS3 owners as they had no choice. I'm slightly surprised Blu-ray won as it's normally the cheaper format that ends up winning. As the example of VHS and Betamax. Betamax was a much better format, just more expensive. I think it's the fact that it's much easier to copy HD DVD's over Blu-Ray. Big movie companies these days are really hot on piracy. I'm not 100% set yet on what will happen. I need a HD tv first! Maybe one of the third party companys will produce a player/recorder in both formats? Blu-Ray player and HD DVD recorder? Might make sense.
supra steveo
Again, glad I got the PS3 me to:D
SupraStormRising
This didn't come as a suprise 10.5 million PS3's sold only 1 million HD DVD units. Sony lost out with Betamax they weren't going to lose out again. Very clever to put it in the worlds most recognised games console really guaranteed victory... (and yes I do own a PS3... COD4 online rocks)

I think some companies are looking at that, but long term if movies arent going to be released in the HD-DVD format then why sped the money releasing a device that no one will need long term. Matt H
Very clever to put it in the worlds most recognised games console really guaranteed victory... Dont you mean the Nintendo DS? Europe is the only place where the PS3 out weights over formats (in current sales - aside from the DS) http://www.vgchartz.com/
