dan4
Has anyone else been brave enough to fit and work with one of these units yet???
Wez
Choose your mapper and then the ECU
dan4
not really the answer i was looking for ta lol
Alex
Maybe not, but it is the right answer. tDR has a MAP ECU and I think Michel Lane has fitted/used them too. They don't do ingnition timing and so are unsuitable for Single turbo conversions.
dan4
the right answer in what way? the map 2 does have full timing control and phr have been using them for single conversions with good success
Alex
the right answer in what way? the map 2 does have full timing control and phr have been using them for single conversions with good success You should always find the mapper first and then go with his suggested ECU...it's the right way to do it. Alex
Oh FFS...don't worry... It was just some friendly advice. Won't bother in future. The MAP2 ECU is wholly lacking in features and ability IMO...

CJ
Not really technical... move to chat? Alex, no point in arguing really.... I think the technical aspect is about to arrive (in discussing what is lacking etc)
michael
Alex, no point in arguing really.... Why not? Is it that cut and dry that the MAP2 is rubbish? It's one thing to put forward a reasoned point giving specific information as to why a particular product may be unsuitable but beginning your arguement by saying it doesn't do ignition timing when it actually has "full Timing advance and retard control of up to eight channels for Distributor, Group Fire or Coil On Plug configurations using a 20 x 19 (380 zone) table" just makes you look silly http://www.mapecu.com/map2.html But Alex is right regarding the mapper - for me the MAP2 seems to tick all the right boxes but I can't seem to find anyone with the experience to map it. Not a failing of the ECU in my opinion.
GeordieSteve
Yep I'm using it. Great little ECU. Very happy with it. Full of features
stealth
It looks like a neat little ECU and it really can't be that hard to shove it in and have a go at mapping it yourself surely, the website gives you everything you need Give it loads of fuel, wind back the advance and give it little boost and then work it out from there........ You could even get a base map to start you off. You'll need to know certain information for the car first like the perfect AFR (stoichiometric figure) etc but it's worth a laugh if you have the time you would also need to buy some extra stuff like Wide band Sensor, Det Cans or some form of knock detection (all of these can cost as much as paying someone to map for you) Personally I would love to do this to my next car, and probably will but there is no point in trying to map my litle N/A run around
JustGav
Why not? Is it that cut and dry that the MAP2 is rubbish? Nooo. didn't mean it that way... I'm sure the MAP2 unit is excellent at what it is supposed to do But Alex is right regarding the mapper - for me the MAP2 seems to tick all the right boxes but I can't seem to find anyone with the experience to map it. Not a failing of the ECU in my opinion. It was the fact that finding a mapper and letting him assist in the choice of ECU is the way forward (from experience)..
