grahamc
You can always order from the US, those I bought were about £12 each. thats not bad at all... where did you order from?
AndyT
Once HD-DVD is phased out, Blu-ray prices should start to drop.. Remember how much DVD's were when they first came out? What's the point in that? How many people bought Video recorders that played both VHS and Betamax??? Very true. I think Sony has won the battle. The PS3 being a large part of that victory. Actually I wouldn't buy a HD player, will wait until the recorders arrive by which time the format war will have probably ended.
Pete
It's a shame as I think HD-DVD is he technically better format with uncompressed audio or something? Same as Betamax was technically better than VHS.

Bluray certainly has higher capacity and was 1080P from the start, there doesn't seem to be much support for Dolby HD on blu-ray yet, but then if you have Uncompressed 5.1 PCM why would you need it? Blu-ray expensive but superior = Betamax HD-DVD cheaper = VHS I could be wrong thoug Mike
Bobbeh
Grahamc - I just got them from Best Buy, 25$ a piece when I went over at X-mas No doubt you can get mail order as cheap if not cheaper. You're not wrong Mike. This time the better tech (amount of disk space / storage available) is the winning technology.
Pete
I'm sure I read some audiophile type review of both technologies and they thought HDDVD was better. You're probably correct, I can't be bothered to look to be honest.

Alex
Pete, The HD DVD *productions* are better right now, but BD will catch up fully and surpass it due to it's abilities. BD is techanically better, more flexible and importantly more PC friendly...found an HD DVD burner on the market?? Nope. But there are BD burners, this means it's the natural successor to DVD. HD-DVD blew it. The PS3 is the main reason that BD is winning, but I'm glad it has. FWIW HD-DVD and BD films are both as good as each other. Neither format AFAIK will output the source sound and allow an AMP instead of the player to decompress it...which is a bit shite. The HD-DVD for the xbox 360 isn't 1080p compatible so should never be considered a proper HD player. BD for the win (TFFT).

I think that if you have an amp that takes HDMI then you might be able to decode it in the amp. otherwise yeah, you are at the mercy of your player. probrox
The best thing to do is to have a PC, and set it up as a media server, then you point the PS3 to it so you can watch all your movies/mp3s from the PC Saves you filling the PS3 HD with your files then. __________________ How do you do that then? I've put everything on an external hard drive but can't get the ps3 to read from it.

Mike 'fraid not...not the actual Master Audio...it's a very odd situation, one I hope has been sorted in the next gen players. I've got an Onkyo TX-SR875 amp (currently the greatest amp available under £1k ) and although it's 100% capable, it's not passed the feed to do the DTS Master Audio decryption itself. Ah, maybe that's why I'm confused then. Thanks. We'll have to talk next time I upgrade my home cinema system.
