HD-DVD is dying out as no one is supporting the technology, so as long as you have a PS3 you'll be ok.

Like Pixelfill says there are loads of region free Blu Ray movies.. its probably about 50/50 atm.

Heard somewhere even MS were thinking of using BR in the xbox... due to the capacity of BR over HD, or something like that?

I know naaaathing about games consoles :D

most of the big names (production companies) seem to be backing the blu-ray format. Its still earlier, but blu-ray is a newer technology and I believe is the way to go...

I went out and bought a 42" 1080p lcd and a ps3 and love it, its stunning :D next is the amp and speakers, so everything is done.

You just have to look at the US, which is where it matters for the media, Blockbuster wont be stocking HD DVD at all, like you said, there are only 2 film studios still supporting it, where as the other 80% have left and are Blu Ray only, Best Buy (US equivilent of Currys) will be encouraging consumers to buy Blu Ray over HD-DVD and already Blu Ray sales are outselling HD-DVD.

To me the only sad thing about HD-DVD not being around is the fact that it is a region free technology and the players are cheaper. But as I got a Blu Ray DVD with the PS3 the 2nd point isnt important to me :)

That price is insane. You can build your own mediacenter with a multiformat drive in it for around £600 and have all the added features of a mediacenter along with blu-ray writing capabilities.

How do company's get away with prices like that!

Once HD-DVD is phased out, Blu-ray prices should start to drop.. Remember how much DVD's were when they first came out? :)

I'd just buy a player that'll accept both formats

What's the point in that? How many people bought Video recorders that played both VHS and Betamax???
