Consequences of illegal racing

A bit off topic but relavant I think, forget illegal races, this could happen at organised events here. I have'nt been in a few years but when I last time I went to TOTB, all they had separating the cars from the spectators was a grass run off and some metal crowd control barriers.

Towards the end of the day, spectators were kicking over the barriers and standing on the grass. I was there with my two young children and thought to myself, if one of these cars lose it, them barriers wont stop nothing and people are going to die.

Has this been changed yet, surprised the organisers of TOTB can get away with this:(

In Lodz (Poland) there was organised for a first time Legal Street Racing competiton. Police agreed to cooperate, there was around 50 cars racing 1/4 mile on city streets (properly secured of course). 2000 spectators turned up to see it. I think this is good step to end up stupidity and start cooperate and have fun in save enviorment (spelling?). It was also absolutely free. Kids in UK are racing on streets because track days/ 1/4miles drag strips access is stupidly expensive.

Totally agree with u mate. Track days are quite expensive for most and 1/4 mile is not as bad but you can have a long wait for what may be a 12-13 sec run.

The Gov't/police up here would not have any co-operation with street racers.

In Brum there is a large gattering every Sat/Sun and its been happening for a long time, i can personally remember the last 10-12 yrs, yet nothing has changed.

Police turns up and everyone moves to another location. I must say that i have seen a few accidents, mainly youngsters getting too excited and being plain stupid.

There is also crowds of older people who don't associate with the youngsters and pick there stretch of tarmac more carefully e.g deserted dual carriageways/a roads and most have 400-650- bhp cars and very rarely any accidents as none of them are there to smash there pride and joy and generally alot more mature.

If police co operated then u could get rid of the tw@s and make it safer for everyone and have an enjoyable night.

This will sound harsh - but it's their own stupid fault.

I get nervous standing at the pod with all its barriers and concrete to protect me.

Let me get this right! Some people decide to watch something illegal but exciting, they took a risk, you're saying its their own stupid fault they died. If a member died at a Jap meet due to someone racing and they had stepped in the road to look and got hit would you say its their own stupid fault? Would you come on this forum and tell the members its that members own stupid fault?

You come across as having a total disregard for life.

I understand you take the risks, but to say its their own stupid fault...Grow up. Alot of your comments to things is 'its their own stupid fault.' Do any of your family smoke? If they get cancer would you say its their own stupid fault because they smoked? And I dont mean say it to them in a joking manner either as what you posted above was not in a joking manner.

I'm sorry if it's too much realism for you, but if you put yourself into a dangerous position like that then what do you expect?

I don't care whether it's tight rope walking, getting fired out of a canon or standing in the way of a hurtling automobile.

I also think the same when I'm out driving the Tiger, if I have a crash it seriously gonna hurt - but that's my risk.

No I wouldn't be insensitive enough to say the same thing if it happened to someone on here.

The risks associated with smoking are clear on the packet. My nicest uncle died from throat cancer through smoking.

After reading more info it sounds like it wasnt the people racing who crashed :(

That puts a whole different light on the situation. What happened?

[edit] ah, I see.

when another car veered into spectators.

Police said the darkness and the smoke coming from the cars meant the approaching driver probably could not see the crowd on the road.

They were stood in the middle of a public highway. I feel for the poor driver of that car.
