Paul Whiffin
Hi all, Would anyone be interested in a heated front screen in there Supra? Basically hit a button and it clears it so you dont need to wait until the heater warms up and it'll be clear in 20 seconds approx. Anyone interested if I get some made? I need 2 for a couple of race cars we are building but I have to order 10 so would need to sell another 8 for it to happen. Should be about £185 + VAT each plus you'll need to get it fitted with a new seal. Oh and wired in as well. Thanks Paul
Gaz Walker
Thats pretty cool. I thought Ford had a patent on that..?
Paul Whiffin
Have they, thinking about I've only ever seen them in Ford's! Mums the word then!
Jspec Germany
Patent my @$$, that comes from aircraft technology. Paul, is it two screens of glass with a filiment sandwiched around the edges?
Gaz Walker
I'm sure they do, but they are used in aircraft and a few car companies have used them under license over the years so I guess theres ways and means Its a good idea for winter users. Does it look like a ford's screen or is it quite intrusive?

Fords use tiny metal elements running vertically down the screen every 5mm of so, so it works a little different (and slower) than aircrafts... Gaz. jevansio
My Range Rover has got one, it's well cool on a frosty morning. Sadly a frosty morning is the last time I would take the Supe out

dangerous brain
My rangey has one as well. Its incredibly useful and will in fact melt the ice off in less than a minute. No more freezing your ass off scraping anymore. Also the last thing you want to do on a cold manky morning is sit and wait for the screen to clear when it can be done in seconds. Thats not too bad a price either considering I was quoted over £600 to replace my screen with a standard one if I wasn't insured.

Pete
Does it look like a ford's screen or is it quite intrusive? I find Fords one quite intrusive. Maybe it's just my eyes.

Pete
Don't forget to factor in building your self a little circuit with a timed relay to turn the thing off. Here's a guide written by one of the Tiger guides to building one. (which I have yet to do for mine) http://www.gilescooper.co.uk/mods/mods2006-06.html
razza
been getting a lift in a fiesta recently that had one of these, it did my nut in, the wire inbetween the glass kept catching my eye and really started to bug me. Would be nice to clear in 20 secs vs 4mins, but looks crap imo....
Tee from China
I'm sure they do. Its a good idea for winter users. Ford did have exclusive automobile applications use but only for the first 2 years back in 1986! Back then you could have them on most models and top line ranges usually got then as standard. Range Rovers,Caterhams,Marcos have them fitted as OE and there is a guy who makes them for quite a few other makes too such as Scimitars,Minis,Evos and such cars as MK1 Cortinas and Mk2 Escorts! but he's never listed Supras on his list. Had several Fords over the years with heated screens and absolutely great and much faster even than a rear heated screen and started to clear before you go into gear and released the handbrake! And at around 180 pounds a bargain as a replacement Escort/Orion is about 300 plus to replace not including fitting!

Really? :blink:The elements are thinner than a human hair and almost invisible to the naked eye so that they don't distract a drivers vision so you must have x-ray eyes if you could see them! MrRalphMan
I agree with Razza, the Mrs has a Mondeo with HFS and I can see them quite clearly, maybe it's the pattern they make as a whole, rather then the indervidual wires.. Still wouldn't do without it.. Could have done with it in the Soop this morning,,, Brrrr..
Paul Whiffin
I'll watch this space for more info. Pics? There wont be any pics until they are done and I wont get them done unless I have 8 orders! I think you can imagine what a front windscreen can look like though
