Jake
http://img118.exs.cx/img118/9061/redvvti2xe.jpg Seems too good to be true, doesn't it. I spoke to the seller, he seems like a good guy and he knows quite a lot about Supras. He owns one himself, besides this one. He knows it's cheaply priced but just wants to shift it. Thorin
Looks like a non-facelift to me from that photo?
Jake
Looks like a non-facelift to me from that photo? Yeah it does! Well spotted. It's got side repeaters on the wing!!! That can't be a 1999 model after all. It's on a V reg and the log book says it's 1999
eldudereno
I agree, saw that ad this morning, things just didn't add up, it's definitely got a pre-facelift front bumper and front wings? Were any red mk4's manufactured in 1999? Surely if he does know about Supra's, why doesn't he say it's a vvti?

Surely if he does know about Supra's, why doesn't he say it's a vvti? 'cos it isn't one? He might not know that all 1999 Supras had the VVTi engine. TRD3000GT
Deff an older modle,. This can happen when, the car is not registeded in jap and it ends up sitting in a show room. Gets registered in 1999 and sent to the UK. Simon Green supra has the same sorta thing on his car. But its not a facelift. C.

SupraTT2004
So do you guys think it is still worth the money and still go to take a look or not? thanks
Thorin
It's either the wrong photo and it's still worth looking at... or there's something distinctly shady about it and I'd stay clear. I'd contact them and ask if he's sure it's a 1999 as it looks like a pre-facelift car, see what his reply is first.
SupraTT2004
yeah I am having my doubts. yeah i will give him a ring tomorrow and see what he says about it all etc. will let you all know. Cheers for the help
Guest Terry S
Ask him for the chassis # ( he may not give it) then check against the production dates.

Alex
I've seen a 1993 car on a 2001 plate - because if you first register the car on a private plate when it's imported. You can the re-register it for a new normal plate and it gets a registration in line with when it was first registered...if you see what I mean. It's a loophole. SupraTT2004
So would that mean that if I import a car say a 1994 model, I could put a private plate on it, no matter what the private reg plate starts with? e.g R111 RSM, or does it still have to show the same age as the car? merckx
It's of the same format you cannot put a private plate on that would make it appear newer. If the original reg was L117 TNL, you couldn't use M1 SUP. :alien: It does have to show the same age as the car.
SupraTT2004
thats a shame nevermind. thanks for that.
Soonto_HAS_soop
The Loophole is a bit weird. If you buy a 1994 car from Japan in 2003, and register it immediately on a private plate such as B19 BOY. When you remove the private plate from the vehicle, the DVLA will issue a plate that is related to the year that it is first registered in the UK, so would be and 03/53 plate. Once that number is on the vehicle, I believe that you can then add another private plate of you choice upto the new 03/53 registrations. SupraTT2004
Have just spoken to the guy again about the car. As we were all saying about its a pre facelift model etc. Basically he had no idea about facelift and pre facelift models. and it is a prefacelift model. He said the paperwork says its a 1999 model but am i wrong thinking that the car should be a facelift being that age?
Jake
Did you get the Chassis Number? That'll tell us for certain when the car was made.
eldudereno
Have you asked him for the number on the VIN plate so you can check the month of manufacture?
SupraTT2004
he wouldnt give it. he said he got all the paper work etc, all the normal sales stuff, but am i right in thinking that if its a 1999 model it should be a facelift because the guy didnt even no what a facelift was. he had to ask me and he has got a supra himself. eldudereno
but am i right in thinking that if its a 1999 model it should be a facelift because the guy didnt even no what a facelift was. Most certainly, 1996 was the year when the facelift took place. As also mentioned earlier a 1999 Twin Turbo should also have the VVTI engine. he wouldnt give it He's a waste of space! Would be good if a local member could check this car out?
