Guest O-Jay
New to the forums so thought I'd introduce myself Names Adam, and I have adored supras ever since Ive had an interest in cars. Will hopefully be looking to buy within the next 4-6 months, with about £15k to spend (including insurance costs). Im currently 19, but will soon be 20. Ive only had my license for half a year or so though . Do you guys reckon theres a hope in hell of me getting insured? If not im still hoping to get one and heavily mod it (not so much astehtically) until ive aged a year or so more .

BASHTHEBISHOP
Hi & Welcome. Your best bet on insurance is to try & get a UK Spec car although at 19 is still going to be pricey. With £15k to spend you should be able to get a seriously good car even keeping £3k back for insurance.
TonyP
With prices the way they are you'll get something really special for 12k but insurance will be astronomical.

miko_supra
if i had 15k to spend i would get this! http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=140472 edit: with that much to spend get a nice manual uk tt and the insurance wont be as much of a killer as a j-spec
Guest O-Jay
Cheers for the warm welcome lads and lasses, Yeah ive been dipping around for insurance, on a serious note a third of the 15K is very likely to be insurance I know but I will do anything to pursue this . Do you think it will be better going for a non-turbo to begin with, and then upgrading to a TT at a later time? Im a tad hesitant to do this, because I can see myself putting alot of hours into this car.... and then to start and do it all again? On the other hand im sure thats half the fun I still need to brush up on my car knowledge before I go hunting though

BUT another option would be to go for a cheap n/a for about 3.5 4k and learn more about driving and the actual car, then you will know better as to what you want in a year or two to come
R Black
Well my advice would be, if your interested, drive a standard N/A for a year, then trade up to a TT, 6mths experience and a tt:blink:, there are many guys/gals with way more experience than you writing TT off regularly. Guest O-Jay
I hate to ask this but what is N/A? non-turbo/automatic? I really do think it would be wise to upgrade to a TT at a later stage. I imagine the experience of a N/A could be invaluable. So would that be fairly cheaper too (obv until I decide to upgrade)?
Harllequin
Welcome m8. To be perfectly honest with you I'm go for a very cheap N/A first. Play with it for a while without the dangers associated with a TT. Learn how it works on the road. Its too sad a thing of late to see guys wipe out in a supra. There have been far too many in the north east of late. Cut your teeth then go for broke. This may sound stupid but spend a good few of that wad you have to go Karting. Then have the N/A Supra as your road toy.
R Black
Normally aspirated, yes non turbo, it would be slightly cheaper to run & your less likely to wrap it round a tree. They even look the same, no one can tell just by looking.
Guest O-Jay
Sounds like the N/A is the way to go then. Means I can get it a bit sooner and I wont have to fork out as much (at least until I decide to move on to the TT). Ill keep you guys posted as to when I start shopping around (2-3 months). Thanks again for the welcome and help
