CJ
I have just seen this on the BBC web site and I am aghast. Is this a new phenomenon? It is certainly new to me and must rank as the latest low point in our society.

Gaz6002
I saw this on a police program a few months ago too - there was a large group (30-40) of Asian kids that started fires on purpose down dead-end streets and then ambushed the fire engines with bricks, logs, stones, anything they could find. When the firemen got out they were physically attacked. They showed similar situations in 2 or 3 areas in the UK. I find it unbelievable and it makes my blood boil. When I was young the fire brigade were made out to be the heros of our society. What ever happened to moral values?
Jspec Germany
Those kids should be beatin. With large pieces of dimension lumber.
TRD3000GT
Im really starting to worry about the quality of people I co-exist with. Its actually getting pretty depressing living in the uk with the amount of crap going on and the way NO one does anything about it.
ivan
I think we ought to pull the troops back from abroad and put them on firefighter close protection duties instead. Let them take their aggression out on the inner city gangs.

It's a viscious cycle that is only going to get worse before it gets any better. This country will soon be a write-off.
Pete
It was on breakfast TV this morning. All goes back to a complete lack of respect again. When I was a kid it was really something to be a fireman. Those guys are heros. How did it all end up like this?
Havard
Why not just give Firemen the power to hose down the little b@stards.....
Lbm
I can't believe your knee-jerk reactions. They're only kids who've turned a bit bad. What's wrong with an old fashioned, no nonsense bullet through the head?

Was it the same program where they had to have police escorts with busses, because kids would pull the emergency stop when they came to a stop and then throw bricks and stuff at the driver cab!!!! Class One
Is this a new low, short answer no I'm afraid. Attacks on the Fire Brigade and Ambulance Service has been going on for years, and occasionally it makes headline news. Paramedics have been wearing body armour for quite sometime and I certainly remember reading stuff about attacks on the fire brigade along time ago. Small feral element of society making it bad for everyone else. Was, is, and always will be there.

They should be made an example of so anyone thinking about doing something similar thinks twice.

Gazboy
IMO anyone mucking around with a 999 service ought to be locked up for 20 years.
Charlotte
IMO anyone mucking around with a 999 service ought to be locked up for 20 years. Jake
I have just seen this on the BBC web site and I am aghast. Is this a new phenomenon? No : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4769630.stm Still, good to see that the The Fire Brigades Union have the available large sums of money to commission an agency to do this survey. I'm sure we all realise that you can get any results you want if you commission your own survey, especially if you're surveying your own members. Why are they doing it though? Being a bit of a cynic, I'm wondering if they want public opinion on their side for upcoming pay negotiations?
