I went two weeks ago and I'm going again on Tuesday to get my crown fitted, the colour was matched to my other teeth.

£194 :)

The following day after my first visit the adjacent tooth completely broke away, I think he'll be asking if I want it taken out or to have another crown.:(

same problem here..

After £300 worth of work on my teeth a few years back, I have lost one of my front crowns. £300 to have it put back in and thats without the other work that needs doing.

I've just got my appointment at leeds dental school though.... shouldn't cost me anything now!

And dentists wonder why people have bad teeth because I know I cant afford to have the work done on mine and there isnt a NHS dentist around here taking on patients... it sucks, big time!

Bloody dentists,licence to print money.

Ps nice dog in your avatar,is it yours?

yes it is mate, thanks, hes about 2 in that pic which was taken about a year ago.

on the dentist thing, the one thing that bugs me is that although my dentist is nhs subsdised, every time i need something done it never seems to be covered, the receptionist just said £400 as if it were small change

One more to come out then, it broke away leaving a relatively small central core. :(

Is there not enough tooth left to do a crown on the second tooth then? The way the current contract is structured for NHS dentists means that if you have the second crown done then you won't have to pay for it.This is only valid as long as the second crown is done within 2months of the first and if it was the first course of dental treatment that you needed after the first crown. The extraction should be free of charge as well on the NHS if it is decided as the best option of treatment.Hope this makes sense;)

I had extreme pain once when i was a student, went to the dental school hospital in glasgow (the only place i could find on short notice) and I was in severe pain. They had to drill one out and do root canal treatment (which is sorting out the nerve endings). To cut a long story short, the student doing it asked me if I wanted it numb'd, trying to be a tough guy I said, nah just go ahead and do the root canal i'll be ok. About thirty minutes later they were finished and I'd just gone through the most painful 30 minutes of my life...

My current dentist since told me it should never be done w/out being numb'd first !

hmm... they call it school for a good reason.. it is a cheap option, but you know what they say - 'no pain, no gain' :)
