cheekymonkey
Before I fitted my new rad, my water temp would stabilise at about 92 degrees. Now, I have changed the rad and with sedate driving the temp goes to 93 or 94 degrees. There's fluid at the top of the rad, and fluid in the expansion tank, and the heaters work, so I think the system is bled - but how can I be sure? Other point to note is that I am running the bigger injectors at the moment and can only drive off boost and below 3000 rpm until I can get the car re-mapped. Would this cause hotter running at all? cheekymonkey
*bump* anyone got any ideas? Also note that Im still using the old 'stat - my hands aren't up to changing it after I saw where the bolts were
Thorin
Well what make is the new rad? If it's some cheapo thing off ebay it wouldn't surprise me.
colsoop
That stat is a right old pain i gave up on doing mine yesterday Where is your sensor mounted to monitor the water temps ? Edit to add: have you added ducting ot foam to the edges of the rad and the fan shroud as from memory it isn't air tight and can allow air to escape through - path of least resistance. Oh right, yeah, it's from Chris Wilson - updated core with stock end caps, brand new, 25mm core which is what I had before. Cheap ebay parts not allowed near my car
Gaz6002
Possibly the 'stat. I had to change mine at the 'Ring last year and that sucked. Good luck mate.
cheekymonkey
Where is your sensor mounted to monitor the water temps ? I am reading it off the PowerFC, so I presume it's using the stock temp sensor, wherever that is - is it the one at the bottom of the rad? Edit to add: have you added ducting to the edges and the fan shroud as from memory it isn't air tight and can allow air to escape through - path of least resistance. Ermm... oops. So all that manky foam crap that fell off my old rad needs to be replaced? That could well be it....

Yep. also seal around the fan shroud, you only want the air going one way

Might actually try and do the 'stat this time

Chris Wilson
Having made huge fuelling changes and not remapped a 1% or less change in coolant temp is hardly significant, and the weather has also warmed up a lot, it was 63 degrees here yesterday You should also ideally re seal the rad to shroud area. A thermostat will be hard pressed to maintain a 2 degree variation anyway.
cheekymonkey
Cheers Chris. I was aware of the fact I'd made multiple changes in one hit and that might make things difficult. Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something (else) silly. It's a shame wasn't able to do the 'stat but I don't have a stubby enough spanner
cheekymonkey
The thermostat has been changed and the system is running a whole 10 degrees cooler now, even without re-sealing. Just FYI if anyone searches for this.
Chris Wilson
Excellent! Thanks for updating. New rads in stock for all models, BIG saving on Toyota dealer prices.
