I do have Insurance which is through Petplan and the Kennel club.Costs £100 per year. which covers all vet bills excluding £50 excess. Hve not had to use yet so cant say how good they are yet. SkyJawa
Aw sweeeeeeeeeeeet We've got a border collie, Cerys who is insured via Petplan, and our BC before that was too. Never had a problem with them at all, and used them a fair bit but (old one mainly, and Cerys had a lump removed). http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.ambrosen/cerys/cez.jpg
kosmic
thats well cute....!! ive got a labrador (black), found tesco insurance to be the cheapest...sorry, cant rememebr the premium. p.s. remember to declare all mods!!
Soop Dogg
I have cat insurance with Allianz Cornhill via Norwich Union Direct. I know they also cover dogs and offer a feature whereby if your pet develops a condition that requires treatment for the rest of his life, it's covered - for the rest of his life. Good one to get when the animal's young! I'll see if I can dig out a link for you tomorrow. Beautiful dog, by the way!
Paul
Try DBI, Dog Breeders Insurance. Reasonable and pay up. With all these though, beware of the excess as you normally pay the first £30/£50 or whatever and this increases with the dogs age. Still worth insuring as most vets won't even look at them for less and once you have the treatment added you'll get to claw anything over the excess back. Nice doggy BTW. geoffvalenti
Ahh puppy's are great aren't they We've been with Pet Plan for 18 years, they've always paid up without hassle. They're not the cheapest, but the last thing you need when the vet says that it's going to cost you a grand, is worrying whether the insurance is going to pay up. I agree about the excess on the policy, its quite high, but I'm not too worried about the odd £100 cut paw and the like, its the mega bills that I want covered. Nothing beats the peace of mind of having insurance when your dog is sick. Its a worrying enough time to begin with, but at least you know you can have the best treatment available without having to keep asking how much is it going to cost. Jake
Our dog "Mac" is insured with Equine & Livestock Insurance ( http://www.eandl.co.uk ) I think it's £14 a month iirc but thank God we haven't had to claim on it yet. Here's him as a pup : (BTW, That's not my house in the last pic, it's the dog breeder's! )
Dragonball
I went with Direct line in the end for my pooch £10 a month
JustGav
We have got a german shepard (rescue) which weight 20kgs when we got him, he is now up to 28kg which he should be.. Sadly he suffers from bad stomach...so he has a very restrictive diet. I would recommend insurance if you have a pedigree, after all you need is one big issue to go wrong and you spend over £100 on vet bills alone. Pedigree's have a high possibility of getting ill, I'm sure it is the in breeding over all the years to get such a fine bloodline... attilauk
We have a German Shepard too, he weighs over 40kgs he's a big dog he's insured through pet plan too, we've not had to claim for anything yet so i cant give you any experiences. Ian R
Don't touch Tesco and Most other insurance companies go for a specialist frim like Dog Breeders Insurance. It may cost a little more however if you dog has an ongoing condition they will pay out where as others will not renew your policy after 12 months and other insurers will exempt the condition. Nice pooch mate
Guest Sakura
Petplan is definitely the best. They are not the cheapest, but the cover is excellent, even with the budget plan. One of my dogs has serious health problems, and has cost £5000 in vet bills over the last 2-3 years. Petplan always pay out really quickly, and never questions any treatments or costs. They also continue to provide cover for existing (expensive) conditions without penalties.
lust2luv
Our kitten is covered by PetPlan - I think they guarantee to renew your cover. Bit more expensive than Tesco and their ilk, but worth it for peace of mind.
MichaelG
Thanks a lot people, couldnt have asked for a better response. He's my pride and joy, and money aint an option when it comes to him. So i think i will go with either PetPlan or E & L as i did actually have just both their flyers here at the time of asking. This forum again proves its worth Thanks very much ! Michael
Rob
Does dog insurance cover mods? Actually no, I don't think you can claim for cobbler removal. I had both my dogs chipped, but haven't noticed any performance gains.
