Kev.O
I'm after some advice on the installation side of an aftermarket ECU. I'm getting to the stage of fitting it where the existing one was, however I can't see how I can fit it in the same place with my fields wiring harness and put the plastic kick plate back on (well atleast not neatly). Does anyone have any pictures and/or advice for me please.
Angarak
My car came with a piggy back ECU and fields harness, the fields harness allowed the piggy back ecu to be situated outside of the ECU kick plate - I just dont think it is possible to fit another ecu under there as there isnt enough room (not if you want the kick plate to seat properly). Wez
You will need to mod/chop the plastic cover, I have a fields harness and AEM in the stock location under the plastic cover.
TLicense
My AEM fit's nicely under the cover. I also trimmed one end a little to make a nice exit for the serial connection cable for the laptop.
Kev.O
I don't suppose anyone has any pictures I could look at please? I also need to work out how to fix the AEM.
Wez
I don't suppose anyone has any pictures I could look at please? I also need to work out how to fix the AEM. I put some spongy type material under the ECU and then used the plastic cover to hold it in place, seems to work alright
Sean1933
To mod the kick plate you literallycut out the centre support, you will see what i mean when looking at it. To support the ECU either use a really strong adhesive pad, or dare i say it...zip ties
Kev.O
Here's a picture of the modified kick plate: Getting the ECU fitted is ok it's getting the fields harness to fit behind there aswell is the hard bit. I take it you need to fold the wires back over onto themselves so that both ends of the harness are in the same place inorder for the loom to connect to it? Sean1933
I dont have any pics, but the fields harness should sit on top of the traction ecu now the centre piece has been removed.

I've removed the Trac ECU and still finding it hard to fit it all in
colsoop
What is it snagging on Kev ?
Kev.O
What is it snagging on Kev ? I have to fold the fields harness back on itself but it now fowls the plastic kick plate. At the moment I'm using a metal plate to mount the AEM onto as I don't want it 'floating' under the kick plate.

I put some soft material similar to dynamat under mine and left it free and my fields harness isnt doubled over on itself.

Did you fit the kick plate Wez? I don't suppose you have a picture floating about anywhere?
Wez
I cut the middle out like you and just forced it all in
Kev.O
Where did you mount the AEM, as far to the right as possible if the harness isn't doubled over?
Wez
Yeah, and then made sure the serial cable was clamped under anything.
