RiceRocket
The jackpot will be circa £95 million. So maybe worth getting a lucky dip and then sit back and laugh in face of odds of 76 million to 1.

They are still no closer to getting the place decorated, bar staff are still minimum wage and the owner won it 6 years ago!! he has the massive cheque in a glass cabinet in the main bar. jamesmark
dont forget about tax got my tickets!! Thats what I have wondered, and the fact I am too lazy to read the T&C's. Do you actually pay tax on it? As betting you do not pay tax so does this not fall under the same category?

I do believe you have to pay taxes... With the current goverment, do you really think you could get that much money tax free???

jamesmark
Near the bottom. http://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/information.do?info=serviceguide It says Q: Are my winnings tax free? A: Normally winnings are not subject to tax
grahamc
Near the bottom. http://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/information.do?info=serviceguide It says normally... meaning??? on occassions they do tax, which would suggest to me that its on the larger winnings... may be completely wrong, which I do hope, since I am sure I have te winning ticket If I do win, there will be a couple of turbo kits going on the forum

As only targeting the big winners will not see as fair. (OK so they have won millions) but just as a priciple thing I guess. I agree with you on the generalisation and the meaning of "Normally". Why should I just hand over £38million or so??? But I think its just easier to tax the big winners.... tax 1 or 2 people instead 300,
jamesmark
It is a bit like inheritance tax, people work for all their working life and build property etc etc. They take 40% of it. It is disgusting as they have worked and paid taxes all their days, to get 40% of it to go to Westminster.

jamesmark
I believe there is actually a "death" tax as well.... My fiancee has a granpa that has a missive piece of land that he built a house on 40 years ago, and it was valued 3 years ago at £750k. Now this does not include money in his bank. He has been offered of late (beginning of last year) £2 million to sell up and leave as they are buiding new house there. There was an offer 3 weeks ago of £2.5 million and he still refused, as he is 82 and he laid every single brick in that house. H his estate is going to be worth £2-£3 millon in total.
