SILKYSMOOTH
Well there is the whole parrallell universe idea where everything is identical yet at a different stage in time.... but i dont buy that either. Might as well except anything then I bet my twin is out there driving my lamborghini;) bastardo
R Black
I for one actually liked Event Horizon, but anyhow, if the theory that there are infinite universes proves true, with enough energy, say a few thousand stars worth, time travel may well be possible, even if harnessing that amount of power is'nt. ozz
Well there is the whole parrallell universe idea where everything is identical yet at a different stage in time.... but i dont buy that either. Might as well except anything then But how do you know what to accept and not? You state 'Time Travel Isn't Possible.' - did you try and fail? I can't prove it is possible but you can't prove it isn't. I seem to remember reading an article recently about a scientist obsessed with going back to save his dad and was building some kind of laser device for time travel - he stated you could only go back to the point the device was created from. Now that may be b0ll0x but who knows? Personally I believe time travel is possible and I have my own theory on how that has no basis on anything scientific but just something I like to think about. MrRalphMan
The best theory about time travel I have seen came from a Mr Koontz book.. His Timetravellers could only move forward in time, so as not to disturb their history.
AndyT
No because we are not talking about actually moving at the speed of light just getting from point A to B faster Time travel isnt possible. Only speeding up and slowing down your apparant time. There is nowhere in the universe where all our past events are stored ready to be jumped to. Time is only something we humans have made up to calculate things. Once a second has happened it has happened. There is a way of witnessing past events though, and that would be to travel far enough away from our planet, arriving at a distance however many light years away at the point before the light that left earth in whatever year, say 1850 reaches the point you are at. As you cant travel faster than the speed on light that would be impossible, unless you dont travel faster than the speed of light, you just get to where you are going faster Nah. Time is measured by the passage of celestial bodies. Moon, sun, planets etc. by about 99.9% of all living creatures and it's reasonably sure that's where we get a sense of time. Travelling faster than light is a matter of physics. The fact that it can be measured as well as it's probable effects means it can be overcome. It was once thought we would fall off the world if we went to far. Fascinating stuff that I don't spend enough time trying to understand. Lbm
It does feel as we look at our civilization teatering on the edge of oblivion, that we're all getting sucked back in time to the middle ages. Natural Time Travel by way of socio-biological devolution, if you will. I'm off down the King's Head for a Klaggon of Ale and to watch a team kick some pig bladder around. And maybe have a little chin wag about quantum physics at half time, so we can go back in time and change the bleeding score

All Empires fail and devolve. I thought we were catching up and passing through that barrier the 70's 80's but it's all devolving now. Social respect is at the lowest ever in history. Without that how can people evolve?

Darren-K
This is one of my favourite subjects !! If I'm travelling at the speed of light, what happens when I turn the headlights on? the light emitted from the headlights would still only travel at the speed of light, the speed of light is constant and is still only emited from the source,as far as the headlight beam is concerned its source is constant. Nah. Time is measured by the passage of celestial bodies. Moon, sun, planets etc. by about 99.9% of all living creatures and it's reasonably sure that's where we get a sense of time. thats not strictly true,. time and space and light are all related, you could still measure time without the presence of planets and or any celestial body,,.however years are measured in relation to us via our sun,. but only for us., for example you could be on the surface of a dead planet,. in complete blackness, no stars visible, nothing ,and you would still be aware of time passing however its worth noting that time speeds up in relation to gravity,.for example 500 miles above the earth time passes more slowly than it does on earths surface. Darren-K
Time travel and faster than light travel is all theory, and unless some genius on here can prove the theory to be a scientific law, this is a pointless debate. well its a known fact that light does not travel in a straight line, and because light & time are 100% related its a fact that time can be bent, therefore 100% a type of time travel is possible in 1 direction..(apparently~)
Darren-K
Time travel and faster than light travel is all theory, and unless some genius on here can prove the theory to be a scientific law, this is a pointless debate. and, time travel in small amounts happens quite often, if you travel on a spaceship out into space carrying an atomic clock,. and travel for a few weeks,. by the time you get back to earth the atomic clock on the spacecraft would of lost a few minuites compared to an atomic clock on earth. Scott
Time travel can't be proven at the moment but its definitely possible to view the past. There are particals that travel faster than the speed of light. I can't remember what they are but they are very very small (atom size or less). If we could create a satellite that could travel faster than the speed of light then we could send it a million lightyears away, record earth from a massively huge telescope, have it return to earth faster than the speed of light and then view the recordings. Of couse it would have to travel much faster than the speed of light to travel 1 million lightyears away and back in a decent amount of time lol. People theorise that after the speed of light speed is limitless with little effort. Don't know much about it though, just getting brief flashes from college lol. Yes it is possible to see the past. Everyone of us does it everyday. The stars are the best example. The stars in the sky are often long gone. They blew up millions of years ago and dont exist anymore. the light that we see in the sky which we call stars, is actually the light that they emmitted millions of years ago, its just that they were so far away that we are only just seeing it now. Eventually, if we are around long enough we will see the explosion that happened millions of years ago when they blew up as well. Therefore we are always seeing the past

ivan
What the hell has travelling at or beyond the speed of light got to do with time travel anyway? Nobody knows what would happen - it's all theory. Remember, when trains were first around everyone was certain that travelling over about 15mph would cause a person to go insane. And I'm betting that some equally crazy theories were around as we approached the speed of sound too.
Al Massey
and, time travel in small amounts happens quite often, if you travel on a spaceship out into space carrying an atomic clock,. and travel for a few weeks,. by the time you get back to earth the atomic clock on the spacecraft would of lost a few minuites compared to an atomic clock on earth. an atomic clock will not be that far out just going to space and back, atomic clocks measure time in a much greater detail than what we know as milliseconds traveling faster than the speed of light i possible, we just dont know how yet, same as time travel,if we can go faster then the speed of light then we can go forward and back in time, einstiens theory wasnt far off and the bending of space to travel faster all depends on what we invent first the most likely will be travelling through hyper space which is in theory traveling through the time and space contiuim(sp) as to building a star trek type warp drive will be highly unlikely as its uses warp plasma to create the energy needed which is very unstable
