House light wiring?

I've got some 2.5mm twin and earth at home, will I be able to use this to wire in a ceiling roase and light in the loft?

I've found the permanent live, and where the previous owners had spots put in the bathroom there's a handy chocolate block already there! :D

I know I'll have problems with routing and fitting the thicker guage but will it cause any electrical issues? Draw too much current or something? I'm not to good with AC theory!! :faint:

I would only connect it to a ceiling rose or junction box on the lighting circuit itself.

I wouldn't connect it to the wiring that the previous owner had installed which the chocolate block is part of as you don't know if this was fitted correctly in the first place.

Using 2.5mm twin and earth is fine but like you say it is harder to work with.

2.5mm is for ring main (sockets) and you will find it difficult to get it into the terminals of a standard light fitting. Best go down to B&Q and get some 1mm or 1.5mm twin and earth.

as said above, use the proper cable and your not going to get any problems, 2.5 wont draw to much current it just has a higher current carrying capicty as apposed to 1.5mm.
