1JZGTE
Hello all I would like to know what a BPU will do for your fuel economy. By BPU, I mean: 1. Aftermarket exhaust system eg. Blitz NUR Spec 2. Electronic boost controller 3. Fuel cut defender 4. Cold air intake I appreciate that the Japanese had a gentleman's agreement with regards to bho output and so some of the cars were simply throttled, the Supra being an example. If driven like for like, what will I see in a car with BPU vs. without BPU with regards to MPG?
Ric
Nothing... Untill you put your foot down to get the extra horses you've released then it will obviously be lower.
Pete
No, it should raise it unless you're driving around at 70% + throttle all the time. Removal of the cats will help fuel efficiency.
flukey-lukey
^^ lol... agreed
1JZGTE
No, it should raise it Really? I was under the impression that the parts I mentioned (oh and a cold air intake ) would shove more air in and more air = bigger bang with more petrol, thus reducing fuel economy? Am I completely wrong then?
Daston
Well in order for cats to work the engine has to burn more fuel to heat them up to the proper temp so really cats are worse to the enviroment for short trips
R Black
BPU'ing just makes the car breath easier, less stress on the engine so less petrol use, BUT as it breathes easier it will drink more if pushed.

1JZGTE
Thnaks for the info guys. OK then, so am I right in thinking that the summary is this: BPU will make car breathe easier and thus for normal driving, MPG will largely be same or a little better. However, when pushed, the car will drink by the gallon?

Well yes as you've raised the boost and the ECU will throw more fuel in, over fuel mainly at an AFR of under 10:1 You'll get some economy back (and extra performance) when you start tweaking the fueling with a decent ECU.
