Airport Security Rant

Today i have been mapping in N.I and had another nightmare with the F*%king Airport security but funny enough its always in N.I.

A couple of monthes ago they stopped me as they thought my wideband sensor was a bomb . Took me into a little room and asked me what it was?, why i was in N.I?, what i do for a living?.

I was getting worried that the rubber gloves were going to come out :rlol:

Ended with them making me send the Sensor in the post , So if it was a bomb it would be going on a Plane anyway....

THEN today

They decided to check out my bag again which i have no problem with but the way they handled all my equipment was just ridiculous, you would think this retard had no hand to eye co-ordination at all. I had to stop them after they just threw my knock box into this plastic tub and i said could you be anymore gentle with my stuff. She then turned around and got another bag as i was apprarently being offensive. :swear:

15mins later she finally said finished and that i could put it all away now :diablo:

Rant over but anyone going to N.I beware of these retards in security (sorry if anyone works there :D)

Ryan.

i fly on planes pretty much every week with work, and get searched a fair few times, TBH i cant see your problem

I would want anybody with suspicious equipment thoroughly search for all parties concerned

There are plenty of signs that equipment you don't want handled etc laptops and sensitive gear you should remove yourself from hand luggage and put them in the machine yourself. i do this for my laptop, camera, phones etc

Mate i work for the BAA at Glasgow airport (Security) and yeah some guards can be absolute nightmares with people and their belongings . I personnaly cant stand the job and believe the DFT who govern us are a bunch of idiots but it does pay quite well and the talent that kicks about the airport is amazing !!

P.s the rubber gloves are customs ;) or else i would have quit a long time ago!!!

I have not got a problem with them doing it but they all just seem to not give a shit about your stuff or you.

Ric taking all my gear out of the bag would be taking the piss big time. I reckon all my sensors, wiring would fill about 3 of those plastic tubs and hold the queue for a while :)

But again i dont have a problem with them removing it all but wish they would be gentle with it all. Im talking over £1000 of equipment so not your average set of det cans with rubber hose and some ear defenders.

With the new Smith Heinman x-ray machines being introduced to many BAA airports you shouldnt have to remove laptops or anything from your bag now . The clearer pictures and better angles make it a lot easier to see the contents of your bag . With any luck N.I will get some soon too !

i hold levels 1,2,3,4 &5 in aviation security and aviation cargo security, 1,2,3&4 are basic, supervisor, transport and airport manager and the level 5 is a DFT trainer/inspector qualification, although i dont work in that industry much i totally agree with you, the problem is basically ANYONE can get a job in airport security as it is not governed by the S.I.A all they have to provide is a work history and a basic disclosure, and whilst it is a low paid job you are bound to get at least 75% no brained, minimum wage muppets, it is very rare to see airport security that have any more than 2 days training this includes xray training for "rapiscan" etc, Southern Ireland is worse, one firm (who i wont name, but who asked me to provide some training) provides search teams for Dublin airport and usually has at any given time at least 10 people working there, the managing director told me to my face his lads need a bit of training because they were all from asia and didnt speak much english and didnt have a clue what they were doing!!!!!!

Now in the UK most security teams are trained in the basics (term used loosley) but customer service and care are not part of this, best thing to do is contact the airport manager and kick up a load of shit cos it will just carry on if you dont. I will find his name and post it up for you
