A restrictor ring question for the technically lacking...

I'm intending, as part of my engine rebuild to fully decat my Supe (cat 1 is still in place); I've read all the threads I can find on the subject, but I'm not 100% sure if I need a restrictor ring or not, could someone please help?

From what I've read, you need a restrictor ring if you have removed the two cats, but do not have a boost controller; I have an HKS EVC, so I assume that it would control the boost and thus I wouldn't need the restrictor?

Is this correct?

Thanks

Tony

You will need to fit the ring mate to stop the car over-boosting to 1.5+ bar. The controller will allow you to set it to different levels but the ring is there to make sure you don't exceed 1.2 bar (or however much boost your RR is made to give). Remember that an electronic boost controller can't lower boost.

EDIT: too slow :(

I'd say it depends on how free flowing your exhaust is. I've removed both cats and i'm not getting fuel cut, car is definitely quicker but no fuel cut yet. I'm putting it down to the apexi exhaust as it has another silencer behind the back box. Still to check what boost its actually giving as I decided to chance it since I have no FCD fitted yet.
