The story in a nutshell: Boss has paddy on Friday morning shouting and swearing at me. He wouldnt calm down, I walked out angry and upset. This was after 5 days of unrelenting migraine, coming down with a cough/cold and bad news the previous weekend. Following Monday to Wednesday off sick as head worse, parents phoned in for me. Docs on Tuesday for migraine medication she advised me to take a week off for stress and come back in a week for something for my 'low mood' if it hadnt improved. Annual leave Thursday to Monday, off work sick Tuesday to Friday. To my knowledge I dont need a doctors note for 3 days sick taken before going on leave. jamesmark Posted February 5, 2008 Share Posted February 5, 2008 You do not need a sick note for the first 5 days (office days) of illness, this is classed as self cert. You will require one for any further illness. Usually a doctor will not write you one if you are planning on returning to work then next week. tbourner Posted February 5, 2008 Share Posted February 5, 2008 It's contract dependant as far as I know, most will say you can have 5 working days self certificate, but then you must be back at work for more than 5 days before you can self cert again, so your 3 days annual leave won't be enough, and technically (ignoring the leave time) you have self certificated 7 working days - which isn't allowed. Check your contract though, it might be different. Regardless, if you've been to the doctor and been told to take a week off with 'work related stress' (I was off with this a few years ago), then just make another appointment with the GP and ask for a note to say you've been sent off work. I'll get a sick note for the first 3 days off. cheers Carl - yeah mate, hes a stroppy SOB, regularly throwing tantrums not to mention phones etc around, slamming doors and his computer, swearing etc. He took it too far this time though. totally unecessary and to make matters worse, totally refutted it!! Also if I was off for one day then had 2 days annual leave and then 1 day off ill again this would require me to get a doctors note.
